Lebanon junior Sierra Miller finished 14th as an individual in the District 2 regional girls golf tournament held Monday and Tuesday, May 11-12, at Mallard Creek, just missing a trip to state.<\/p>\n
Miller, who was the only Warrior girl to qualify for the regional, struggled on Day 1, finishing with an uncharacteristically high 110, before shooting 90 on Day 2 to finish with an overall score of 200.<\/p>\n
She was one of two individual qualifiers, along with Woodburn\u2019s Emma Puente, who finished third (94-91-185) for the tournament.<\/p>\n
Coach Bart Baldwin noted that Miller was the first player to tee off on Day 1.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were some nerves and she had a tough first nine holes,\u201d he said. \u201cThen she bounced back and played really well.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe played so well she raced back up the leaderboard and missed qualifying for state by one stroke.\u201d<\/p>\n
Crater won the event, shooting 377-369-746, ahead of the Mid-Willamette Conference\u2019s Silverton (418-391-809), West Albany (418-398-816) and Corvallis (410-409-819). The Comets\u2019 Halle Shore was the individual champion (85-82-167).<\/p>\n
The Warriors\u2019 Sam Tunstill did not compete in the boys tournament, also held May 11-22 at Mallard Creek, but he plays this week in the 5A Boys State Tournament\u00a0 Monday and Tuesday, May 18-19, at Tokatee Golf Club in Blue River.
