{"id":123327,"date":"2026-05-20T16:17:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T16:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/123327\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T16:17:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T16:17:07","slug":"wheat-production-falls-by-50-in-iraqs-diyala-shafaq-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/123327\/","title":{"rendered":"Wheat production falls by 50%+ in Iraq\u2019s Diyala &#8211; Shafaq News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                            2026-05-20T15:59:31+00:00<\/p>\n<p>                                    font<\/p>\n<p>                                            Enable Reading Mode<\/p>\n<p>\n                                        A-<br \/>\n                                        A<br \/>\n                                        A+\n                                    <\/p>\n<p>Shafaq News- Diyala<\/p>\n<p>Wheat production in Iraq\u2019s Diyala has dropped by 50\u201355% this<br \/>\nseason after severe water shortages forced authorities to reduce cultivated<br \/>\nareas across the province, local agricultural officials said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Director General of Diyala Agriculture Directorate Iyad<br \/>\nAl-Jubouri told Shafaq News that severe water <a href=\"https:\/\/shafaq.com\/en\/society\/Iraqi-dam-dries-up-completely-after-15-day-water-cutoff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">shortages<\/a> at the start of the<br \/>\nseason forced authorities to reduce the areas allocated for wheat cultivation.<\/p>\n<p>While many farmers struggled to secure sufficient water<br \/>\nquotas to irrigate their farmland, thousands relied on <a href=\"https:\/\/shafaq.com\/en\/society\/Al-Azim-Dam-hits-full-capacity-in-Iraq-s-Diyala-after-months-of-drought\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">rainfall<\/a>, which helped<br \/>\nimprove production during the latter part of the season.<\/p>\n<p>According to Al-Jubouri, <a href=\"https:\/\/shafaq.com\/en\/society\/Diyala-province-expects-over-200K-tons-from-wheat-harvest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cultivated<\/a> areas inside and outside<br \/>\nthe official agricultural plan exceeded 300,000 dunams (about 30,000 hectares),<br \/>\nwhile the expected marketed production would surpass 200,000 tons, quantities<br \/>\nhe said would achieve self-sufficiency in the province.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/shafaq.com\/en\/Report\/Rooted-in-soil-An-Iraqi-farmer-holds-on-as-the-land-changes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Read more: Rooted in soil: An Iraqi farmer holds on as the land changes<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, wheat harvest season began in Diyala,<br \/>\nKarbala, Najaf, and Basra.
