The war in Iran has only fueled the AI bubble, Wells Fargo analysts said.<\/p>\n

The firm warned clients in a note that as the Strait of Hormuz is effectively closed, the AI trade<\/a> bubble will keep inflating, but they don’t believe that means it’s time to sell AI or that a bubble is close to bursting. <\/p>\n “There will be a breaking point, but until then, a closed strait actually fuels the AI bubble trade, in our view,” the analysts said in a May 12 note, explaining, “You can’t own anything but AI – that’s how a bubble forms.”‘<\/p>\n In a more recent note this week, Wells Fargo said, “We believe the closed Strait contributed to the AI rally in recent weeks: you couldn’t own anything but AI amid macro concerns.”<\/p>\n The analysts said the macro risks from the closed Strait of Hormuz will eventually weigh on stocks as the AI trade relies on the billions of dollars in capital expenditures<\/a> that are funding AI. This spending will only continue if the rest of the economy holds up, Wells Fargo said.<\/p>\n The Iran war has fueled a surge in oil prices<\/a>, sparking inflation fears<\/a>, which have driven Federal Reserve rate hike odds higher<\/a>, bond yield spikes<\/a>, and could weigh on stocks<\/a>.<\/p>\n The conflict in the Middle East and high oil prices, have further muddied the outlook for equities and investors looking for growth opportunities are left with tech.<\/p>\n Despite calling out a bubble forming in the AI trade, Wells Fargo doesn’t expect a near term decline in equities and isn’t bearish on the AI theme at large.<\/p>\n “We expect limited downside until either growth slows, core inflation meaningfully accelerates, or if the war evolves into a hot war,” the analysts outlined, adding, “Don’t fight the tape. Own AI.”<\/p>\n The firm said it expects by the fourth quarter of 2026 that AI’s contribution to total US GDP to surpass 3%, which is the level that investments in another another major infrastructure build out, railroads, peaked.<\/p>\n “We still like AI, but expect the speed of rally to slow,” the analysts wrote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The war in Iran has only fueled the AI bubble, Wells Fargo analysts said.
