US President Donald Trump on Thursday said that America has \u201ctotal control\u201d of the Strait of Hormuz and that it does not want toll on the strait in order to keep it \u201cfree, without tolls\u201d as Iran\u2019s chokehold on the key waterway continues.<\/p>\n
Standoff over Iran\u2019s enriched Uranium stockpile<\/p>\n
Addressing the media at the Oval Office, Trump vowed to recover Iran\u2019s stockpile of enriched uranium despite statements from Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei that Tehran will not hand over the material.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will \u2060get \u200bit. \u2060We don\u2019t need it, \u2060we don\u2019t want it. \u200bWe\u2019ll probably destroy it after \u2060we get it, but \u2060we\u2019re \u200bnot going to let them have \u2060it,\u201d Trump told reporters at the White House.<\/p>\n
A Reuters report stated that Iran possesses around 900 pounds of highly enriched uranium, which the US president said was buried by America and Israel in attacks last year. The central objective of Trump administration to launch the war against Iran has been to retrieve the enriched uranium, so that Iran is not able to develop a nuclear weapon.<\/p>\n
The report added that a directive has been issued by Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei stating that the country\u2019s near-weapons-grade uranium should not be sent abroad.<\/p>\n
Diplomatic push and Pakistani mediation<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio poised hope on Thursday ahead of Pakistan\u2019s army chief Asim Munir\u2019s visit to Tehran that it will advance the diplomacy on ending the near three months old conflict and said that there has been progress in that regard.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe the Pakistanis will be traveling to Tehran today. So hopefully that\u2019ll advance this further,\u201d Rubio said, adding \u201cThere are some good signs, but\u2026I don\u2019t want to be overly optimistic, as well, so let\u2019s see what happens over the next few days.\u201d<\/p>\n

US rejects Strait of Hormuz tolling system<\/p>\n
