Lars Jensen, the firm&#8217;s president, noted that none of the vessels that recently transited the Strait were <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/container-port-traffic-teu-20-foot-equivalent-units-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">container ships<\/a>, and that the overall transit volume remains very small compared to pre-crisis levels.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jensen, the situation indicates that some shipping lines are cooperating with Iranian authorities, and that Iran is permitting limited traffic through the strait. He also pointed to reports that Iran allowed a few Chinese vessels to pass without requiring payment. The timing of this development, Jensen said, is noteworthy because it occurred just before President Donald Trump&#8217;s visit to China, suggesting an Iranian effort to create friction between the United States and China regarding the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>A real-time dashboard tracking current strait conditions, insurance markets, and diplomatic developments through AI-powered analysis of live web data and AIS vessel positions reported that 16 vessels transited the waterway in the past 24 hours. On Monday, Iran officially announced via social media the establishment of the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, describing it as the legal entity and representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran for managing passage through the strait. The authority stated that passage without permission would be considered illegal, and that vessels seeking transit must apply through an official email address, submitting ownership details, proof of insurance, crew manifests, cargo declarations, and intended routing.<\/p>\n<p>Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported that Iran has submitted a response to the latest U.S. proposal to end the conflict. The New York Times reported that President Trump is not open to offering Iran any concessions to end the war. U.S. strikes on Iran began on February 28, and the Strait has been effectively closed since then. Only about 2% of global container capacity has been affected by the closure.<\/p>\n<p>The relevance of container ships and container shipping costs to the chemical industry stems from the fact that while most chemicals are liquids transported in tankers, container ships carry polymers such as polyethylene and polypropylene, which are shipped in pellet form.
