{"id":129172,"date":"2026-05-24T18:34:12","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T18:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/129172\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T18:34:12","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T18:34:12","slug":"npt-must-not-be-based-on-nuclear-exceptionalism-deputy-fm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/129172\/","title":{"rendered":"NPT must not be based on &#8216;nuclear exceptionalism&#8217;: Deputy FM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"summary\">TEHRAN \u2013 Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, has stated that the global Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) must be founded on &#8220;equal security, equal sovereignty, and equal accountability,&#8221; warning that Tehran would not allow countries to misuse international institutions for political purposes.<\/p>\n<p>In a post published on X following the conclusion of the 11th Review Conference of NPT at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Gharibabadi said the month-long conference ended without any outcome after three weeks of negotiations and discussions.<\/p>\n<p>He asserted that the attacks carried out over the past year against Iran&#8217;s peaceful nuclear facilities\u2014which are under safeguards\u2014by the United States and Israel should have been the conference&#8217;s primary concern.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unfortunately, some Western governments and the United States, which either committed widespread and blatant violations of international law or supported these violations, once again made a mockery of the United Nations and tried to reverse the roles of aggressor and victim,&#8221; he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Gharibabadi stated that those countries, instead of condemning &#8220;the aggressors and military attacks against civilian targets, infrastructure, and innocent Iranian citizens,&#8221; attempted to include language in the conference&#8217;s final document condemning Iran over what they described as failures to comply with safeguards obligations and UN Security Council resolutions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Islamic Republic of Iran firmly prevented these countries from achieving their political objectives,&#8221; he said, adding that the conference failed to adopt a final document because of the &#8220;excessive demands&#8221; of Western countries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The responsibility for this failure lies with these countries,&#8221; Gharibabadi said. &#8220;The Islamic Republic of Iran will not allow them to continue the abusive instrumental use of international forums and documents in pursuit of their political goals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the non-proliferation regime is to survive, it must be built on equal security, equal sovereignty, and equal accountability; not nuclear exceptionalism,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The 11th NPT Review Conference was chaired by Vietnam&#8217;s permanent representative to the United Nations and was held for one month at the UN headquarters in New York.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"TEHRAN \u2013 Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, has stated that the global Nuclear&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":129173,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[4],"tags":[34,19968,15886,3122,69],"class_list":["post-129172","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tehran","tag-iran","tag-kazem-gharibabadi","tag-npt","tag-nuclear-deal","tag-tehran"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@iran\/116630995791096777","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/129172","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=129172"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/129172\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/129173"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=129172"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=129172"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=129172"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
