The<br \/>\ndiversion has slowed movement between Baqubah and Khanaqin, forcing a major<br \/>\ndetour that adds more than an hour to key travel routes in the Kurdistan<br \/>\nRegion.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy rainfall recently raised water levels in Lake Hamrin, triggering<br \/>\nstructural <a href=\"https:\/\/shafaq.com\/en\/society\/Heavy-rains-trigger-collapse-near-Iraq-s-longest-bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">collapse<\/a> near the bridge and prompting authorities to close the<br \/>\ncrossing over safety concerns for motorists.<\/p>\n<p>Stretching more than seven kilometers, the project has already cost more<br \/>\nthan 60 billion Iraqi dinars ($39.06 million).
