Iran will manage the Strait of Hormuz in cooperation with
\nOman and aims to restore commercial shipping traffic to pre-war levels within a
\nmonth, Iranian state television reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The proposed agreement reportedly includes the withdrawal of
\nUS forces from areas surrounding Iran and the lifting of the naval blockade.
\nMilitary vessels are not covered by the draft.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Major General Nasser Arasteh, deputy head of the
\nmilitary advisers\u2019 group to Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader, claimed that the US military
\npresence in the Gulf had \u201ceffectively ended,\u201d regardless of whether a war
\nbreaks out. Arasteh argued that any future confrontation would evolve into a
\n\u201ctrans-regional war\u201d stretching from the Indian Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea.<\/p>\n
He also pointed to a \u201cnew reality\u201d in Hormuz, under which no
\nforeign vessel would be allowed to pass without prior authorization from the
\nnaval force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).<\/p>\n
Earlier this week, Amir Ebrahim Rasouli, political adviser Washington and Tehran are negotiating a draft<\/a> memorandum of
\nto the speaker of Iran\u2019s parliament, said<\/a> in a TV interview that \u201cHormuz should
\nbe managed by Iran in cooperation with regional countries,\u201d noting that Tehran called
\nfor greater US \u201cconfidence-building measures\u201d and regional control of the strait.<\/p>\n
\nunderstanding that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz \u2014through which about 20%
\nof global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies transit\u2014 and could help ease
\nhostilities across several regional theaters, including Lebanon.<\/p>\n
