Kataib Sayyid Al-Shuhada, an Iran-aligned Iraqi armed
\nfaction, rejected handing over its weapons to the government on Wednesday,
\ninsisting that the \u201cresistance\u2019s weapons\u201d would remain as long as the reasons
\nfor their existence persist.<\/p>\n
Spokesperson Kazem Al-Fartousi told Shafaq News that
\nthe group supports Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi in managing the state and
\nmaintaining stability but opposes disarmament \u201cat the current stage,\u201d arguing
\nthat the faction\u2019s weapons are tied to ongoing threats facing Iraq rather than
\nbeing \u201cpersonal arms.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe faction will not surrender its weapons as long as
\nthere is occupation and violations affecting Iraqi sovereignty.\u201d<\/p>\n
Al-Fartousi also criticized proposals to fully
\nintegrate armed factions into the country\u2019s security institutions, maintaining
\nthat each group has a distinct role and that any discussion regarding full
\nintegration depends on specific political and security conditions.<\/p>\n
Earlier today, Patriotic Shiite Movement (PSM) leader
\nMuqtada Al-Sadr announced<\/a> the formal separation of Saraya Al-Salam, the
\nmovement\u2019s military wing, and declared that its members would join state
\ninstitutions under the authority of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces,
\nPM Al-Zaidi.<\/p>\n
