{"id":133697,"date":"2026-05-27T19:22:52","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T19:22:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/133697\/"},"modified":"2026-05-27T19:22:52","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T19:22:52","slug":"donald-trump-presses-saudi-arabia-qatar-to-join-abraham-accords-amid-iran-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/133697\/","title":{"rendered":"Donald Trump presses Saudi Arabia, Qatar to join Abraham Accords amid Iran talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Trump on Monday called for Gulf allies to join the Abraham Accords amid talks between the U.S. and Iran to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/5893351-us-iran-agreement-strait-reopening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">bring an end to hostilities<\/a> in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>The pressure comes as the two nations are <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/5892964-trump-iran-deal-strait-hormuz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reportedly working on a deal<\/a> to extend the ceasefire in the region and reopen the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/5893863-iran-war-potential-peace-deal-oil-gas-price-drop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Strait of Hormuz<\/a> \u2014 while also laying the groundwork for broader talks over Tehran\u2019s embattled nuclear program and potential sanctions relief. Officials on both sides have cautioned that key elements remain under negotiation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNegotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are proceeding nicely! It will only be a Great Deal for all or, no Deal at all \u2014 Back to the Battlefront and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever before \u2014 And nobody wants that!\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116635193825443617\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">wrote in a post<\/a> on Truth Social.<\/p>\n<p>The president said he spoke with multiple regional leaders over the weekend, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI stated that, after all the work done by the United States to try and pull this very complex puzzle together, it should be mandatory that all of these Countries, at a minimum, simultaneously, sign onto the Abraham Accords,\u201d he continued, acknowledging that the UAE and Bahrain were already members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt may be possible that one or two have a reason for not doing so, and that will be accepted, but most should be ready, willing, and able to make this Settlement with Iran a far more Historic Event than it would, otherwise, be,\u201d Trump added.<\/p>\n<p>The Abraham Accords were established in 2020 under the first Trump administration to broker ties between Israel and the Gulf states.<\/p>\n<p>In his Memorial Day post, the president pressed Saudi Arabia and Qatar to join first, \u201cand everybody else should follow suit.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they don\u2019t, they should not be part of this Deal in that it shows bad intention,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>As negotiations between U.S. and Iranian officials continue, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/5893291-trump-iran-nuclear-talks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said Sunday<\/a> that his administration would not \u201crush\u201d into any deal, adding \u201ctime is on our side.\u201d The emerging framework, however, is <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/5893248-tillis-criticizes-iran-peace-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">drawing intense criticism<\/a> from Republicans, who compared parts of it to the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/5893497-trump-iran-nuclear-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Obama-era nuclear agreement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the president <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/5893824-donald-trump-criticism-potential-us-iran-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">pushed back on the scrutiny<\/a>, focusing much of his ire on Republicans he has <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/5884917-trump-massie-retribution-takeaways\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">already labeled disloyal<\/a>, including Sens. Thom Tillis (N.C.) and Bill Cassidy (La.), as well as Rep. Thomas Massie (Ky.).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI laugh at all of the Dumocrats, RINOS, and Fools who know nothing about the potential deal I am making with Iran, things that haven\u2019t even been negotiated yet, weak and ineffective people like failed Senator Thom Tillis (Soon out of office!), Bill Cassidy, who just suffered a massive Primary loss, really bad Congressman Thomas Massie, a major sleazebag who lost in a landslide\u00a0to a great American Patriot (Endorsed by \u201cTRUMP\u201d) after showing tremendous disloyalty to his Party (and Country!), and almost all Dumocrats, people that have totally lost their way, constantly supporting bad policy and even worse candidates, but are constantly critical of each and every fantastic win I have,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116634668906719597\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wrote on social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>GOP Sens. Roger Wicker (Miss.) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.) <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/5892991-gop-lawmakers-pressure-trump-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">were also skeptical<\/a> of the reported deal, arguing that extending the ceasefire would be a disaster for the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters in India on Sunday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/5893557-marco-rubio-iran-deal-criticism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">blasted critics\u2019 suggestion<\/a> that the potential agreement would give Iran the upper hand as \u201cabsurd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea that somehow this president \u2014 given everything he\u2019s already proven he\u2019s willing to do \u2014 is going to somehow agree to a deal that ultimately winds up putting Iran in a stronger position when it comes to nuclear ambitions is absurd,\u201d he told reporters on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Graham on Monday hailed Trump\u2019s proposal to expand the Abraham Accords.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump\u2019s most recent proposal requiring expansion of the Abraham Accords as part of a negotiated settlement to the Iran conflict is simply brilliant and would result in the most significant change in the Middle East in thousands of years,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LindseyGrahamSC\/status\/2058916648950628661\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LindseyGrahamSC\/status\/2058916648950628661\" rel=\"nofollow\">wrote on social platform X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI expect our Arab allies to embrace this, as well as our friends in Israel, focusing on this task as failure is not an option \u2014 which would be a correct analysis,\u201d he added later.<\/p>\n<p>Updated at 1:30 p.m. EDT.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZCOmstG79f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media Inc.
