After several years\u00a0 of stagnation, the Syrian vehicle market is showing signs of recovering, with foreign carmakers re-entering the country.<\/p>\n

Kia\u00a0became the leading brand with 43.5% of the market, followed by\u00a0Hyundai\u00a0in 2nd with 35.8% and MG in 3rd with 16.6%.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Looking at brands, the\u00a0Hyundai H-1 100 Bus\u00a0ranked 1st, followed by the\u00a0Kia Frontier\u00a0and the\u00a0Kia Sorento.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Medium-Term Market Trend<\/p>\n

Not long ago, Syria was the largest automotive market in the Levant. As recently as 2010, annual new vehicle sales reached 87,500 units, making the country a significant player in the regional automotive industry. However, the outbreak of civil war and the rise of terrorism severely damaged the country\u2019s economy, leading to the collapse of many industries, including the automotive sector.<\/p>\n

Between 2010 and 2014, vehicle sales fell dramatically, dropping to 23,955 units. The decline continued in subsequent years, reaching a low point in 2017 when sales had fallen by more than 90% compared to 2010 levels, totaling just 7,978 units. Although the market showed a modest recovery in 2018, with sales approaching 10,000 units, this improvement proved temporary. In 2019, new vehicle sales declined again to 8,347 units, representing a 15.8% year-over-year decrease.<\/p>\n

The combined effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing political and social instability further weakened the market in 2020. Sales plunged to 2,941 units, a sharp decline of 64.8% from the previous year.
