Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The US Naval Forces Central Command (USNAVCENT) issued an urgent maritime statement on Friday, warning ship owners, operators and mariners of what it called \u201cdangerous military operations underway\u201d in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the location of the operation was announced in the north of Oman\u2019s Musandam Peninsula, located in the middle of the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
In a statement dated May 29, the Joint Maritime Intelligence Center assessed the threat level in this area as \u201cCRITICAL.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement claimed that Iran was attempting to \u201cillegally control\u201d this strategic waterway through what it called \u201cdangerous and illegal minelaying\u201d; A move that, according to CENTCOM, has put ships and their crews at risk.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, all mariners have been advised to avoid the \u201ctraffic separation scheme\u201d in the Strait of Hormuz and instead coordinate their passage with the \u201cUS Naval Cooperation and Guidance Center for Shipping.\u201d<\/p>\n
Vessels have also been asked to maintain constant radio contact with US Navy authorities and to immediately implement orders issued by US forces.<\/p>\n
In the final part of the statement, a firm warning has been issued that any vessel observed carrying out or supporting mine-laying activities will be targeted by US forces in the context of what is called \u201clegitimate defense.\u201d<\/p>\n
