Iraq’s
\nCommunications and Media Commission (CMC) issued a formal warning on Monday to
\npolitical analyst Fattah al-Sheikh following comments he made on a satellite
\nbroadcast that the regulator deemed a violation of broadcasting standards.<\/p>\n

The warning
\nwas prompted by remarks al-Sheikh made Sunday evening on “Ma’a Mulla
\nTalal,” a program aired on satellite channel UTV, in which he said:
\n“Iran is the crown of every Iraqi’s head.”<\/p>\n

The
\nCommission ruled that the statement fell under the category of incitement to
\nviolence and hatred and issued the formal warning on that basis.<\/p>\n

Last March<\/a>,
\nthe CMC also issued a warning to the UTV channel over content aired in the same
\nprogram.<\/p>\n

According to
\nthe Iraqi Association for Defending Press Freedom, the Commission suspended<\/a>
\nfive political television programs, fined three media outlets, warned two Arab
\nbroadcasters, and restricted 18 media figures between Dec. 1 and May 31. It
\ndescribed the measures as \u201cunconstitutional,\u201d criticizing CMC\u2019s head for
\n\u201cgranting himself powers to issue suspension, blocking, and financial penalty
