{"id":142568,"date":"2026-06-02T20:00:20","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T20:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/142568\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T20:00:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T20:00:20","slug":"british-couple-craig-and-lindsay-foreman-jailed-in-iran-on-espionage-charges-lose-appeal-family-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/142568\/","title":{"rendered":"British couple Craig and Lindsay Foreman jailed in Iran on espionage charges lose appeal, family say"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A British couple jailed on spying charges in Iran have lost an appeal against their convictions, their family have said.<\/p>\n<p>Craig and Lindsay Foreman were handed 10-year prison sentences in February after being convicted of espionage, which they both deny.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 1267 934\" alt=\"Lindsay and Craig Foreman have lost their appeal against their convictions, the couple&#x2019;s family has said\" data-root=\"\/_media\/img\/\" data-path=\"12LHKMWE4L43UFYBS2B2.jpg\" data-ar=\"1.36\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/12LHKMWE4L43UFYBS2B2.jpg\" alt=\"Lindsay and Craig Foreman have lost their appeal against their convictions, the couple&#x2019;s family has said\"\/>Lindsay and Craig Foreman have lost their appeal against their convictions, the couple\u2019s family has said<\/p>\n<p>The couple\u2019s family have claimed they were not permitted to attend their appeal hearing.<\/p>\n<p>They were jailed and following their arrest in January 2025 while travelling through Iran during a round-the-world trip by motorcycle.<\/p>\n<p>The couple are being held in Tehran\u2019s notorious Evin prison, where conditions are harsh.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Foreman\u2019s son, Joe Bennett, from Folkestone, said \u201cthe dial needs to shift\u201d as he insists the pair \u201cdon\u2019t understand the process\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cMy mum Lindsay and step-dad Craig were not permitted to attend their own appeal hearing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 1986 1505\" alt=\"Joe Bennett, right, on The Leas in Folkestone with his mum Lindsay Foreman and step-dad Craig Foreman\" data-root=\"\/_media\/img\/\" data-path=\"EIVU2KTL8LYVZ26Z3Y6H.jpg\" data-ar=\"1.32\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EIVU2KTL8LYVZ26Z3Y6H.jpg\" alt=\"Joe Bennett, right, on The Leas in Folkestone with his mum Lindsay Foreman and step-dad Craig Foreman\"\/>Joe Bennett, right, on The Leas in Folkestone with his mum Lindsay Foreman and step-dad Craig Foreman<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t know if they received a proper account of what was argued on their behalf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know they had been asked to sign documents &#8211; documents they could not read, and they refused, but we don\u2019t know the details of when, or what they were.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir case has now passed to the Supreme Court, but we don\u2019t understand the process, the timeline, or what, if anything, will be submitted in their name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UK Middle East minister Hamish Falconer recently told Parliament the couple were &#8220;innocent tourists&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>But the pair\u2019s family said Mr Foreman is on day 25 of his hunger strike and Ms Foreman is on day 16 of hers, adding all communication between them has been cut off by Iranian authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe dial needs to shift, and it needs to shift now\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bennett said he met with officials at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) on Monday but left without \u201cclarity on what pressure is being applied to Tehran\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cTheir appeal has failed and they don\u2019t know why.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are on hunger strike because they have run out of ways to make their own government act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FCDO met with us yesterday and were very kind.
