Craig and Lindsay Foreman were handed 10-year prison sentences in February after being convicted of espionage, which they both deny.<\/p>\n

The couple\u2019s family have claimed they were not permitted to attend their appeal hearing.<\/p>\n
They were jailed and following their arrest in January 2025 while travelling through Iran during a round-the-world trip by motorcycle.<\/p>\n
The couple are being held in Tehran\u2019s notorious Evin prison, where conditions are harsh.<\/p>\n
Ms Foreman\u2019s son, Joe Bennett, from Folkestone, said \u201cthe dial needs to shift\u201d as he insists the pair \u201cdon\u2019t understand the process\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cMy mum Lindsay and step-dad Craig were not permitted to attend their own appeal hearing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know if they received a proper account of what was argued on their behalf.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know they had been asked to sign documents – documents they could not read, and they refused, but we don\u2019t know the details of when, or what they were.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir case has now passed to the Supreme Court, but we don\u2019t understand the process, the timeline, or what, if anything, will be submitted in their name.\u201d<\/p>\n
UK Middle East minister Hamish Falconer recently told Parliament the couple were “innocent tourists”.<\/p>\n
But the pair\u2019s family said Mr Foreman is on day 25 of his hunger strike and Ms Foreman is on day 16 of hers, adding all communication between them has been cut off by Iranian authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe dial needs to shift, and it needs to shift now\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Bennett said he met with officials at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) on Monday but left without \u201cclarity on what pressure is being applied to Tehran\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cTheir appeal has failed and they don\u2019t know why.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are on hunger strike because they have run out of ways to make their own government act.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe FCDO met with us yesterday and were very kind. But kind is not the same as doing something to enable their release.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe dial needs to shift, and it needs to shift now.\u201d<\/p>\n
The FCDO warns all British and British-Iranian nationals not to travel to Iran because of a \u201csignificant risk of arrest, questioning or detention\u201d.<\/p>\n
The government previously described the couple\u2019s 10-year sentences as \u201ccompletely appalling and totally unjustifiable\u201d.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the FCDO said: \u201cWe are disappointed by the appeal decision and will continue working to ensure that Craig and Lindsay are returned safely to the UK.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince their arrest last year, Britain\u2019s ambassador to Tehran, diplomats and officials in London have been working to provide consular assistance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis includes the ambassador visiting them in prison and facilitating calls with their family back in the UK.<\/p>\n
\u201cMinister Falconer last met the family on May 18 and the Foreign Secretary on March 17.<\/p>\n
