It hit the radar sites, including an island in the strait, \u201cto defend against further attacks\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The US and Iran have been engaged in largely indirect negotiations to secure an interim deal to halt the <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/us-israel-war-iran?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">three-month-old war<\/a> that would leave issues including Iran\u2019s nuclear programme to further negotiations.<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Commuters drive past a large banner depicting the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in Tehran on Wednesday.
