Pakistan\u2019s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Saturday as Islamabad stepped up efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran, with regional tensions remaining high despite months of diplomatic engagement.<\/p>\n
The visit will be Naqvi\u2019s third trip to the Iranian capital in recent weeks as Pakistan leads a diplomatic push to bring the two sides to the table.<\/p>\n
Ahead of the visit, Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and briefed him on the planned discussions in Iran. The two leaders reviewed developments related to regional diplomacy and Pakistan\u2019s mediation efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsultations also took place between the prime minister and the interior minister regarding his upcoming visit to Tehran. The prime minister provided guidance related to the visit,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
The interior minister also briefed Sharif on his recent meetings on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.<\/p>\n
According to the PMO, the meeting additionally focused on measures aimed at maintaining internal security and ensuring public safety across Pakistan.<\/p>\n
The latest diplomatic outreach follows Naqvi\u2019s meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Bishkek on Friday, where both sides discussed bilateral relations as well as recent developments in West Asia. Pakistan\u2019s Interior Ministry shared details of the interaction in a post on X.<\/p>\n
The current regional crisis began on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran, triggering retaliatory attacks from Tehran and escalating tensions across West Asia. The conflict disrupted trade routes, rattled energy markets and raised concerns about broader regional instability.<\/p>\n
A ceasefire agreement reached on April 8 halted large-scale hostilities, but efforts to secure a longer-term political settlement have continued.<\/p>\n
Since then, Pakistan has emerged as an intermediary between the two sides, facilitating the exchange of messages and encouraging diplomatic engagement.<\/p>\n
In April, Islamabad hosted direct talks between US and Iranian representatives, marking the first such meeting since the conflict began. However, the discussions ended without a breakthrough agreement.<\/p>\n
