(Keith Garner\/U.S. Army)<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">A U.S. Army Apache helicopter went down near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday and the two crew members were rescued, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/06\/08\/us\/politics\/us-helicopter-strait-of-hormuz.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">report<\/a> from The New York Times. <\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">It was not clear what caused the aircraft to go down. President Donald Trump, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Qlwv_IwQS0k&amp;t=3696s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">speaking to reporters in New York<\/a> on Monday evening, said more details would be released Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">\u201cThe pilots are fine, nobody injured,\u201d he said.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">U.S. Central Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">U.S. forces have continued to operate in and around the Strait of Hormuz even after a ceasefire in the war with Iran took effect in April. Their mission includes defending commercial and military vessels from attacks and holding a naval blockade on Iranian ports. <\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">For weeks, U.S. officials have signaled that a peace deal is near, but talks have been stalled by intermittent fighting. The war began in late February with strikes by the U.S. and Israel that killed a number of Iran\u2019s top leaders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">Iran retaliated by attacking American military bases in the Middle East and choking off traffic in the strait, which is a major sea lane for oil shipments. <\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">Sunday marked one of the most serious days of fighting between Iran and Israel after tensions in Lebanon escalated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">Iran insists Lebanon is party to the ceasefire deal and has rebuked Israel\u2019s continued campaign against Hezbollah, an Iran-backed paramilitary group in the country. The two countries agreed to pause their fighting after the U.S. intervened on Monday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">Trump said Monday the U.S. is \u201ctwo or three days\u201d away from having a \u201cvery, very good, strong, powerful deal\u201d with Iran. <\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">The U.S. can resume bombing \u201cvery easily,\u201d but doing so would cause more casualties and likely further delay reopening the Strait of Hormuz, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">\u201cIf we do the bombing, a lot of people are going to be killed,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWho wants to do that?
