ANKARA, June 10 (Reuters) – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that Israel’s attacks on Syria and \u200cLebanon had reached a point where they also threaten Turkey, adding \u200cIsrael’s “aggression” posed a threat to the whole world and must be stopped.<\/p>\n
NATO member Turkey has been \u200bone of the fiercest critics of Israel’s assaults on Iran, Gaza, and Lebanon, saying Israel was the biggest obstacle to regional peace. It has halted all trade with Israel and called for measures against it at international courts.<\/p>\n
“The attacks \u200cby (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu \u2060and his newtork of murder on Lebanon and Syria have brought the issue to a point where it also threatens \u2060Turkey,” Erdogan told lawmakers from his ruling AK Party in parliament, and added that Ankara’s security was tied to that of these two countries.<\/p>\n
Erdogan also said \u200bIsrael was \u200bleading a “sneaky effort” to destabilise African countries \u200band the Mediterranean by igniting “the \u200cfire of discord” on the ethnically-split island of Cyprus.<\/p>\n
“These small entities, whose ambitions far exceed their size, have boarded Israel’s boat of mischief, taken on the role of Zionist subcontractors, and are pursuing some pipe dreams in the Eastern Mediterranean,” he said, without elaborating.<\/p>\n
“Nobody should chase adventures… I want everyone to \u200cknow that if the rights of Turkey \u200band Turkish Cypriots are violated in the Eastern \u200bMediterranean, our response will be \u200bvery clear and very strong.”<\/p>\n
Turkey, Iran’s neighbour, has blamed Israel’s “provocations” \u200cfor starting the U.S.-Iran war.<\/p>\n
Erdogan on \u200bWednesday urged world \u200bpowers to take a more clear stance against Israel, saying it was emboldened by the “silence of international community”.<\/p>\n
“Pulling Israel back to within the bounds \u200bof the rule of \u200claw has become a shared duty not just for certain countries, \u200bbut for all of humanity,” he said.<\/p>\n
