{"id":156445,"date":"2026-06-12T00:23:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T00:23:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/156445\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T00:23:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T00:23:12","slug":"slovenia-lifts-ban-on-arms-trade-with-israel-saar-lauds-just-decision-by-new-pm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/156445\/","title":{"rendered":"Slovenia lifts ban on arms trade with Israel; Sa&#8217;ar lauds &#8216;just decision&#8217; by new PM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Slovenia\u2019s new conservative-led government on Thursday lifted an arms embargo on Israel and entry bans on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and two of his ministers.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Slovenia, then under liberal prime minister Robert Golob, imposed a series of measures against Israel over the war with Hamas in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Several other EU members have done the same.<\/p>\n<p>But the government of Prime Minister Janez Jansa, which took office last week, overturned the bans against Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will restore the conditions for a normal political dialogue with Israel,\u201d it said in a statement, adding the move would help \u201cstrengthen the role of the Republic of Slovenia in the efforts to achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tGet The Times of Israel&#8217;s Daily Edition<br \/>\n\t\t\tby email and never miss our top stories\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/terms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terms<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The country is also letting the arms embargo expire, considering the decree \u201cunnecessary\u201d given existing national defense laws and EU arms export criteria, it said.<\/p>\n<p>The government of Jansa \u2014 an admirer of US President Donald Trump \u2014 also lifted a ban on imports from Jewish settlements in the West Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign Minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar welcomed Jansa\u2019s \u201cswift and just decision to lift the distorted anti-Israeli measures taken by Slovenia\u2019s previous government,\u201d calling him a \u201cbold leader and a true friend of Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Israel announced it will open an embassy in Slovenia, marking what it hopes will be a new chapter in relations with the European country.
