Talks to end the war between Iran<\/a> and the US were thrown into chaos again on Friday after Donald Trump<\/a> accused Tehran<\/a> of leaking \u201cfake\u201d details of an agreement.<\/p>\n

In a post on Truth Social, the US president said that the terms of the deal published in both Iranian state media and global news agencies was \u201cfake news\u201d amid growing confusion over the state of negotiations.<\/p>\n

Under the terms, the agreement would open the Strait of Hormuz<\/a>, lift a US naval blockade and end the Israeli war in Lebanon.<\/p>\n

The most contentious issues, including the future of Iran\u2019s nuclear programme, would be decided in a further 60 days of talks.<\/p>\n

Trump accused Iran of spreading \u2018fake news\u2019 about a deal (Reuters)<\/p>\n

In a post on social media, Trump did not say what was inaccurate in reports on the proposed deal, but said: “The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing.”<\/p>\n

“Very dishonorable people to deal with,” he said of \u2060the Iranians.<\/p>\n

Under the terms, the United States would also provide Iran with billions \u200bof dollars in \u2060unfrozen assets and waive sanctions on its oil exports.<\/p>\n

The only explicit reference to nuclear policy for now would be \u2060a restatement of Iran’s decades-old commitment not to seek nuclear weapons, first made when it ratified the UN Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1970.<\/p>\n

Despite jointly launching the war \u200cwith the United States, Israel has so far been excluded from the negotiations, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> said his country would not be party to the memorandum.<\/p>\n

Netanyahu has repeatedly clashed with Trump in recent weeks over US demands that Israel curb military action in Lebanon to let Washington reach a deal with Tehran.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Friday, a source told Reuters that the memorandum could be signed as soon as Sunday with Geneva emerging as a potential venue.<\/p>\n

The source said language in the memorandum \u2060was still being finalised and Iran was sticking to its position that the deal must also end fighting in Lebanon.<\/p>\n

The aim was to finalise the wording by Saturday so the agreement could be signed by U.S.<\/a> Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammed Baqer Qalibaf.<\/p>\n

Trump abruptly said on Thursday he was calling off bigger new strikes on Iran because the deal was now ready.<\/p>\n

“We just made a great settlement of the war with Iran,” Trump told reporters in the White House on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Trump’s announcement of a deal prompted global shares to rally and oil prices to slip. Brent crude prices were down more than 3% to their lowest in nearly two months.<\/p>\n
