LEBANON, Tenn. (WSMV) – Wilson County officials are planning to formally express their opposition to a sewer treatment plant that would extend outside the city limits of Lebanon. <\/p>\n

Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto said Friday that next week, county commissioners plan to \u201cpresent a resolution formally stating its opposition <\/a>against locating the sewer treatment plant anywhere outside the city limits.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI support this action and appreciate the County Commission\u2019s willingness to make our position clear,\u201d he wrote. <\/p>\n

The post is in regard to the City of Lebanon searching for a location to house its new wastewater facility<\/a>. Lebanon Mayor Rick Bell announced in April that the city needed to move ahead with a new facility, as the current sewer plant is 60 years old. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhile technological upgrades have been made through the years, the structure is outdated,\u201d Bell previously said.<\/p>\n

Lebanon has created a committee to help with identifying the location. At the end of May, there were 15 different location options and city councilmembers said they were looking into how each site would impact the community, environment and existing infrastructure. <\/p>\n

Hutto spoke with local radio station WANT 98.9 on Thursday about the treatment plant, saying that while the Lebanon sewer expansion<\/a> is not part of Wilson County Water and Wastewater Authority, citizens are concerned about the project. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe would love for this sewer system to stay inside the city limits of Lebanon. Our citizens want that as well,\u201d he said, adding that he shared that sentiment at a community meeting. <\/p>\n

Hutto also said Friday that there was a community meeting held on Thursday that \u201cneither I nor my office were notified\u201d about. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy position on this issue has been consistent from the beginning. I discussed my concerns publicly at the first sewer committee meeting,\u201d he said. \u201cSince then, I have repeatedly expressed to both city officials and the sewer committee that I do not support locating this facility in Wilson County outside the city limits.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said he will continue to oppose putting the sewer plant outside of Lebanon city limits. <\/p>\n
