US-Iran peace deal: How soon can we see the official text?<\/p>\n

The Trump administration is hailing a potential peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran, but the official text of the deal has yet to be publicly released.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump said the deal likely won\u2019t be unveiled until it’s officially signed in Switzerland Friday. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to get a formal setting first before we do that, but I have no problem with it,” Trump told reporters while attending the G7 Summit in France. “It\u2019s a great document. Here\u2019s what it says: Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. That\u2019s what it says. They won\u2019t have one to buy, to develop. They will not have a nuclear weapon.”<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Vice President JD Vance also stated the deal had already been digitally signed<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Still, critical questions linger on what exactly is in the deal.<\/p>\n

According to senior administration officials, the agreement includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz “toll-free”, as Trump has put it, for now. The move would restore the strait to its pre-war condition. But it’s also unclear what could happen long-term as Iran says it may charge for future services in the Strait.<\/p>\n

Officials also say the deal requires Iran to stop funding regional terrorist groups. <\/p>\n

In exchange, officials said Iran\u2019s frozen funds would be released, and sanctions on the country would be eased. <\/p>\n

The agreement reportedly opens up a 60-day window for further talks that could dismantle Iran\u2019s nuclear program and remove its nuclear material. <\/p>\n

But some lawmakers have expressed skepticism about whether the deal will prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon and have called for more information and a chance to review the agreement. Trump said Monday he’s open to the prospect.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like the idea,” Trump said. \u201cI never thought about sending, never even thought about it, but I will. I will send it to Congress.”<\/p>\n

Still, one major issue could derail the agreement: Iran insists the deal requires Israel to withdraw its troops from Lebanon. However, a U.S. official said the deal does not include any such provision, and Israeli officials say their forces will not leave. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah, based in Lebanon, has vowed to continue fighting until Israel withdraws.<\/p>\n
