LEBANON, Ore. – Lebanon Fire District crews knocked down a two-acre grass fire that threatened farming equipment on the evening of June 15.<\/p>\n
Firefighters were called to the 35900 block of KGAL Road at 5:03 p.m. for reports of a small natural cover fire. The Battalion Chief spotted a large smoke column while heading to the scene and immediately upgraded the call to a first alarm for more crews and equipment.<\/p>\n
The fire was moving fast through a windrowed field, pushed by steady winds toward the roadway and several pieces of farming equipment. The first engine crew focused on protecting the equipment while a second engine attacked the fire’s head, stopping it from jumping the road and igniting another field.<\/p>\n
Local farmers showed up with water trucks and helped put out the flames. Crews brought the fire under control in about 20 minutes, though some units stayed to finish mopping up hot spots.<\/p>\n
While fighting the grass fire, the district handled multiple other calls including a cardiac arrest, a fire alarm and a second fire involving a motorhome on the south end of town. One engine was pulled from the KGAL Road fire to respond to the motorhome blaze, stretching the district’s resources.<\/p>\n
