In its formal notification, Oman stressed the necessity of a slow, managed removal of <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/container-port-traffic-teu-20-foot-equivalent-units-oman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">maritime traffic<\/a>. It pointed out that two routes exist to the north and south but reiterated that the standard Traffic Separation Scheme is not secure. A joint operation issued a caution last Friday after a mine was verified, with estimates suggesting up to 80 mines are present in the main channels.<\/p>\n<p>Because <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/container-port-traffic-teu-20-foot-equivalent-units-oman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">vessels<\/a> are navigating a temporary sea lane, Oman cautioned about a heightened chance of collisions, noting the routes are narrow and need oversight to maintain safety. IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez announced the start of the evacuation for more than 11,000 seafarers still trapped in the area, also noting the confirmed deaths of 14 innocent crew members during the hostilities. He stated that the required safety assurances have been obtained and the conditions for safe travel have been fully checked to enable these activities.<\/p>\n<p>Dominguez described the endeavor as a major operation, while Omani officials indicated it would proceed in stages based on vessel groupings. They will reach out to ships in assigned clusters and designate a transit day. The decision remains with each vessel and its operators, but after receiving their scheduled day, they can proceed to a specified waiting zone in international waters. Ships are directed to contact the coastal state along their chosen path to verify that traffic conditions allow them to continue.<\/p>\n<p>Oman emphasized that the <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/container-port-traffic-teu-20-foot-equivalent-units-oman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">transits<\/a> will be free of tolls and consistent with international law to guarantee freedom of navigation. Vessels are required to keep their AIS active during the journey. This development occurs as Iranian factions continue to claim the Strait is shut and report they are not granting permits. Nonetheless, evidence suggests some ships are leaving the Gulf, with reports indicating transit numbers are nearing the highest levels since February, prior to the conflict&#8217;s onset.<\/p>\n<p>Qatar and Pakistan, serving as joint mediators, also released a combined statement following the initial round of Iran-U.S. talks in Switzerland. It stated that the two parties, among other accords reached during the discussions, agreed to keep a communication channel open for the 60-day period. The aim is to uphold the terms of last week&#8217;s Memorandum of Understanding and to prevent incidents and misunderstandings, with the objective of ensuring <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/container-port-traffic-teu-20-foot-equivalent-units-oman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">safe passage for commercial ships<\/a> through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>However, factions inside Iran argue that this arrangement is only temporary and that after 60 days, the Strait of Hormuz will become an Iranian waterway. Last week, its self-styled Persian Gulf Strait Authority declared it would start demanding ships carry insurance for the passage, stating it would be free for the first 60 days but that fees might be imposed later.
