{"id":176034,"date":"2026-06-24T19:33:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T19:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/176034\/"},"modified":"2026-06-24T19:33:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T19:33:11","slug":"israels-foreign-minister-colombias-de-la-espriella-is-a-true-friend-of-the-jewish-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/176034\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel\u2019s foreign minister: Colombia\u2019s De la Espriella is \u2018a true friend of the Jewish people\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">MIAMI \u2014 Colombian President-elect Abelardo De la Espriella plans to restore the South American country\u2019s relations with Israel when he takes office in August. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Gideon Sa\u2019ar, Israel\u2019s foreign minister, announced on Wednesday in Hebrew that he had a phone conversation with De La Espriella, whom he referred to as a \u201ctrue friend of the Jewish people\u201d and Israel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe president-elect reiterated in our conversation his commitment, which he also expressed during his country\u2019s election campaign, to the alliance between Israel and Colombia that will be stronger than ever,\u201d Sa\u2019ar wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/gidonsaar\/status\/2069797068961411448\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"https:\/\/x.com\/gidonsaar\/status\/2069797068961411448\">on X<\/a> in Hebrew. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">De la Espriella, 47, who has said he planned to open a Colombian Embassy in Jerusalem, responded to Sa\u2019ar\u2019s post in both English and Spanish <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ABDELAESPRIELLA\/status\/2069802956765925742\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ABDELAESPRIELLA\/status\/2069802956765925742\">on X<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cColombia will restore and strengthen its relationship with the State of Israel like never before,\u201d De la Espriella wrote. \u201cIsrael can count on Colombia as a loyal friend and steadfast ally. May God bless our two nations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">During his campaign, De la Espriella, who identified as a former atheist who converted to Catholicism, connected with pastors from megachurches and had the backing of Christian-right political parties. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Colombia recognized Israel\u2019s statehood in 1949 and opened an embassy in Tel Aviv in 1957. A free trade agreement between the two countries went into effect in 2020.
