{"id":176410,"date":"2026-06-25T02:04:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T02:04:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/176410\/"},"modified":"2026-06-25T02:04:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T02:04:12","slug":"nearly-half-of-americans-think-us-is-too-supportive-of-israel-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/176410\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearly half of Americans think US is \u2018too supportive\u2019 of Israel &#8212; poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JTA \u2014 A new survey found that 48% of American voters think the United States is \u201ctoo supportive\u201d of Israel, the highest since the pollster started asking the question in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The survey published Wednesday by Quinnipiac University also found that 60% of respondents reported that military intervention in Iran was \u201cnot worth it\u201d as opposed to 34% of voters who said it was \u201cworth it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The number of respondents who think the US support of Israel is about right is 38%, while just 7% think the US is not supportive enough of Israel, the poll found.<\/p>\n<p>Broken down by party, 66% of Democrats think the US is too supportive of Israel, while 9% think it is not supportive enough and 18% think US support for Israel is about right.<\/p>\n<p>Among Republicans, 20% think the US is too supportive of Israel, 69% think American support for Israel is \u201cabout right,\u201d and 6% think the US is not supportive enough.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tGet The Times of Israel&#8217;s Daily Edition<br \/>\n\t\t\tby email and never miss our top stories\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/terms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terms<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Among independent voters, 55% think the US is too supportive of Israel, 34% think US support for Israel is about right, and 7% think the US is not supportive enough.<\/p>\n<p>The poll data were released one day after three Democrats critical of Israel \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/2-far-left-anti-israel-candidates-win-nyc-primaries-in-stunning-sweep-for-mamdani\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">including two anti-Zionists<\/a> \u2014 swept their House primary races in New York City, and in races around the country even some reliably pro-Israel Democratic candidates distanced themselves from the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC.<\/p>\n<p>A survey last year by Gallup found dwindling support for Israel among Democrats, as well as waning support among Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Still the party divide was also in sharp evidence in the latest poll. In responses to the question about whether the Iran war was \u201cworth it,\u201d Democrats disfavored military action in Iran at 93% and independents at 66%, while 75% of Republicans surveyed thought it was \u201cworth it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Given a list of 10 issues and asked which, if any, they considered priorities in their decision-making process in the election for the US House of Representatives, 41% of voters cited the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, above AI data centers (38%) and Donald Trump (38%). The high cost of living (70%) and health care (59%) topped the list.<\/p>\n<p>The Quinnipiac poll was conducted from June 18 to 22, and includes responses from 1,165 self-identified registered voters.<\/p>\n<p>The margin of error is 3.4 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2026\/06\/AP26059773758699-e1782350561193.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3849692\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/AP26059773758699-e1782350561193-640x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\tPeople attend a protest in New York, on February 28, 2026, against US and Israeli strikes on Iran. (AP Photo\/Kena Betancur)<\/p>\n<p>Among those surveyed, 48% said they had an unfavorable view of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Twenty percent said they had a favorable opinion, and 30% \u201chaven\u2019t heard enough\u201d about him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNetanyahu gets poor marks from American voters as their appetite for supporting Israel wanes, with the share of voters who think the US is too supportive of Israel hitting a new high,\u201d Quinnipiac polling analyst Tim Malloy wrote in the report.<\/p>\n<p>Voters were also asked about their views on the June 17 memorandum of understanding with Iran, which begins a 60-day negotiation period that does not outline an end to Iran\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter months of diplomatic fits and starts, global economic repercussions and a broad loss of life in the region, a majority of voters make their feelings clear: the Iran war was a bad idea,\u201d Malloy wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Voters who are either not confident or \u201cnot so confident\u201d that the deal will succeed numbered 59%, and 61% think it is either likely or very likely that Iran will develop nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<p>Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\tWe can&#8217;t do this work alone.\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Untitled-design-4-200x200.jpg\" class=\"attachment-square size-square wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel.
