{"id":177899,"date":"2026-06-26T02:18:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T02:18:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/177899\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T02:18:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T02:18:16","slug":"rare-works-by-israeli-artists-rubin-gutman-head-to-auction-valued-at-300000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/177899\/","title":{"rendered":"Rare works by Israeli artists Rubin, Gutman head to auction valued at $300,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When Tiroche holds its annual auction on June 28, it will feature Nahum Gutman\u2019s rolling hills of Ein Kerem and Reuven Rubin\u2019s portrait of a young Jerusalemite woman, along with other long-awaited works by leading Israeli artists drawn from several major collections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese sales are always exciting,\u201d said Amitai Hazan, CEO of the auction house, \u201cbut even more so with these collections that we\u2019ve been working on for years and which are finally here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Gutman and Rubin, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiroche.co.il\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Tiroche auction<\/a> will feature works by early 20th-century artists Yehezkel Streichman, Mordecai Ardon and Menachem Shemi, alongside contemporary pieces by others such as Michal Rovner, Israel Hershberg, Fatima Abu Rumi and Lea Nikel.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the artworks are valued at NIS 1 million ($300,000) each, a price considered to be on the very high end for Israeli art. The Zimmermans were a more recent addition when they saw the bullish market and decided to move on to selling their collection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have items that you really only see in museums,\u201d said Hazan, noting their focus on four artists \u2014 Rubin, Gutman, Ardon and Moshe Castel \u2014 all collected in the 1960s and 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you compare it to tech investments, they invested in Apple and Facebook when they were just starting,\u201d he said. \u201cThey had a very good eye.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-vertical wp-image-3849980\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/435454-300x480.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"480\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tMordechai Ardon, Zimmerman collection, being sold at Tiroche auction on June 28, 2026 (Courtesy)<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been an uneasy two and a half years for Tiroche, just as with any Israeli business.<\/p>\n<p>Just one day before an auction slated for April 14, 2024, the Iranian military launched its first-ever direct attack on Israeli territory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was planning to postpone, and we got up that next morning, and everyone was in a great mood about what the Israeli air force had pulled off \u2014 there was optimism in the air,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hazan\u2019s advisors pushed him to lean into the moment and hold the auction anyway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is our country, we live from peak to peak,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>An auction planned for mid-June last year then had to be postponed because of the 12-day war with Iran.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to do business like this in Israel, you plan things for months, and almost nothing works out the way you planned,\u201d Hazan said.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/\u05e8\u05d0\u05d5\u05d1\u05df-\u05e8\u05d5\u05d1\u05d9\u05df-\u05dc\u05d2-\u05d1\u05e2\u05d5\u05de\u05e8-1925-\u05d0\u05d5\u05e1\u05e3-\u05e6\u05d9\u05de\u05e8\u05de\u05df.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3849191 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/\u05e8\u05d0\u05d5\u05d1\u05df-\u05e8\u05d5\u05d1\u05d9\u05df-\u05dc\u05d2-\u05d1\u05e2\u05d5\u05de\u05e8-1925-\u05d0\u05d5\u05e1\u05e3-\u05e6\u05d9\u05de\u05e8\u05de\u05df.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1691\" height=\"2048\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\tReuven Rubin, Lag B\u2019Omer 1925, Zimmerman collection, being sold at Tiroche auction on June 28, 2026 (Courtesy)<\/p>\n<p>When the upcoming auction takes place on June 28, most of the 2,000 expected bidders will be attending virtually.<\/p>\n<p>The Rubin and Ardon works will compete for collectors\u2019 attention, though they\u2019re from different eras: Ardon was more successful in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s, while Rubin\u2019s works are from the 1920s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose works are now 100 years old,\u201d said Hazan.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, said Hazan, he feels a sense of satisfaction that these seminal Israeli works, \u201cthe good ones,\u201d could end up back home.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\tWe can&#8217;t do this work alone.\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Untitled-design-4-200x200.jpg\" class=\"attachment-square size-square wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel.
