(Reuters: Amir Cohen)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Lebanon&#8217;s state news agency said an Israeli drone struck in Nabatieh al-Fawqa, which lies outside a security zone shown on a map published by Israel of an expanded zone its troops control in southern Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Israeli military told Reuters it had carried out the strike, using a drone as no Israeli troops were in the immediate area. It said it targeted an individual who posed a threat to its forces, without providing further details or evidence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It came a day after Israel and Lebanon signed a US-brokered security arrangement aimed at reducing tensions along their border following months of hostilities with Hezbollah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Both sides said the deal was an initial step that calls for Hezbollah to disarm and Israel to withdraw troops from Lebanon, but it was not clear how it would be enforced. Hezbollah said it would not cooperate.<\/p>\n<p>Iran asserts control over vital strait<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Iranian state television said the country&#8217;s Revolutionary Guards had delivered &#8220;a decisive response&#8221; after US forces hit a communications tower in the port city of Sirik.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Iran&#8217;s Mehr news agency said the port was operating normally with no damage reported to facilities or equipment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-06-27\/us-strikes-iran-after-trump-slams-hormuz-attack\/106850280\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US strikes Iran after Trump calls Hormuz attack &#8216;foolish&#8217; ceasefire breach<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Iran&#8217;s Revolutionary Guards vows a &#8220;swift and decisive&#8221; response, according to Iranian state television, claiming they repelled a US attack on Sirik Island, on the shores of the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Bahrain said Iran&#8217;s continued attacks, despite regional and international de-escalation efforts, were undermining peace and regional stability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It also accused Tehran of breaching UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and the June 17 Islamabad memorandum of understanding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">After Thursday&#8217;s <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-06-26\/hormuz-strait-ship-attack-prompts-un-to-pause-evacuation\/106843940\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106843940\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">strike on a cargo ship off Oman&#8217;s coast<\/a>, Iran did not acknowledge responsibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Instead it asserted its authority to regulate shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and said vessels must comply with routes designated by Tehran.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Iran also warned Gulf states against siding with Washington and said the Iran-US interim agreement gave it control over ship traffic through the strategic waterway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Ebrahim Azizi, the head of the Iranian parliament&#8217;s national security committee, said on Saturday that any violation of Iran&#8217;s shipping instructions through the strait would be met decisively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">US Central Command condemned what it said was Iran&#8217;s Thursday strike as &#8220;unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping&#8221;, adding the US would continue to provide &#8220;safe passage coordination and support&#8221; to commercial vessels transiting the strait.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Strait of Hormuz was the conduit of one-fifth of the world&#8217;s oil and LNG supplies before the US and Israel launched the war on February 28.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Violence will be met with violence,&#8217; Vance says<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">US Vice-President JD Vance, once seen as a sceptic on US intervention in Iran but now a point person for President Donald Trump on the conflict, said the Americans have adhered to <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-06-18\/us-iran-ceasefire-deal-new-detail-revealed-uranium-and-lebanon\/106811808\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106811808\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the ceasefire deal<\/a>, also known as a memorandum of understanding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Iran signed a ceasefire agreement. We have honored it. If they have disagreements about how the MOU is being applied, they can pick up the phone.
