Hakeem Jeffries of New York, the House minority leader, on Saturday congratulated recent winners of New York Democratic Party primaries, despite two of the candidates declining to support him as a potential House speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Jeffries\u2019 statement congratulated Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, Brad Lander and Micah Lasher, who all won Democratic party primaries in New York City this week.<\/p>\n<p>All are expected to win seats in Congress in the general election in their Democratic-majority districts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom public servants to union organizers to community activists, the path is different but the work is the same,\u201d Jeffries said in a statement. \u201cWe must decisively address the affordability crisis and crush far-right extremism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In each election, Israel was a central issue. Adriano Espaillat and Lander beat incumbent US Rep. Dan Goldman. Jeffries had endorsed Espaillat and Goldman.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Congratulations to our newest members of the NYC congressional delegation.<\/p>\n<p>From public servants to union organizers to community activists, the path is different but the work is the same. <\/p>\n<p>We must decisively address the affordability crisis and crush far-right extremism! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/f4XC6dpX7q\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/f4XC6dpX7q<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hakeem Jeffries (@hakeemjeffries) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hakeemjeffries\/status\/2070854894890692957?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">June 27, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chevalier and Valdez, both members of the far-left Democratic Socialists of America, have declined to endorse Jeffries as majority leader if Democrats take back the House.\n<\/p>\n<p>Their refusal to endorse Jeffries highlights the tense relationship between the DSA and more moderate Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>At an election night party for Valdez, attendees chanted, \u201cYou\u2019re next,\u201d at Jeffries when he appeared on a screen at the event.<\/p>\n<p>Chevalier, in particular, has voiced many extremist views targeting Israel, Democratic party leaders, the US, and domestic issues, such as calls to abolish prisons, borders and the police.<\/p>\n<p>Mainstream Jewish leaders have lined up behind Jeffries amid threats against his leadership from the DSA.<\/p>\n<p>Jeffries has supported Israel\u2019s existence as a Jewish and Democratic state and backed US security assistance to Israel.<\/p>\n<p>He has also been harshly critical of the war in Gaza, saying last year that \u201cthe starvation and death of Palestinian children and civilians in an ongoing war zone is unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those positions put him in line with Democratic Party moderates, while the insurgent DSA is more in line with far-left anti-Zionism.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\tWe can&#8217;t do this work alone.\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Untitled-design-4-200x200.jpg\" class=\"attachment-square size-square wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel.
