{"id":181739,"date":"2026-06-28T17:02:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-28T17:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/181739\/"},"modified":"2026-06-28T17:02:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T17:02:10","slug":"new-age-israel-strikes-lebanon-despite-truce-framework-to-end-hostilities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/181739\/","title":{"rendered":"New Age | Israel strikes Lebanon despite truce framework to end hostilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                                              &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n                             <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"igm-fluid lazy_bk\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/a2efb05df1e4779a9e262636b5863b9d.jpg\" alt=\"Image description\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n                             Hezbollah supporters block the old airport road in the southern suburbs of Beirut, with burning tires to protest against the trilateral agreement that was signed between the US, Israel and Lebanon on Saturday. |  AFP photo                             &#13;<\/p>\n<p>Israel renewed its strikes on Lebanon on Sunday, Lebanese state media reported, two days after an agreement was signed by the two countries, which a Hezbollah lawmaker warned would lead to \u2018internal conflict\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The strikes come a day after one person was killed in an Israeli strike on the south, according to Lebanon\u2019s health ministry, with the Israeli military saying it targeted Hezbollah members near its self-proclaimed \u2018security zone\u2019, which reaches 10 kilometres into Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanon\u2019s state-run National News Agency reported several strikes on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli army said a soldier \u2018fell in combat\u2019 in southern Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>In a later statement, Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir approved plans for \u2018continued operations in the security zone, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Hezbollah drew the country into the Middle East war in March with rocket fire aimed at Israel to avenge the killing of Iran\u2019s supreme leader in US-Israeli strikes, and Israel responded with massive airstrikes and a ground invasion.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanese president Joseph Aoun told his US counterpart Donald Trump on Saturday that his country \u2018would assume its responsibilities\u2019 in implementing the framework agreement, which was signed in Washington on Friday after five rounds of talks.<\/p>\n<p>The deal aims to pave the way for peace between Israel and Lebanon, who have officially been at war for decades, though Israel\u2019s many conflicts across its northern border have largely been with non-state actors.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement makes any Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese land conditional on Beirut disarming Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the deal \u2018historic\u2019 for his country.<\/p>\n<p>Hezbollah strongly opposed the talks with Israel from the start and rejects the agreement, with leader Naim Qassem saying on Saturday that the group would treat the deal as \u2018null and void\u2019 and describing it as \u2018a surrender of sovereignty\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>His supporters took to the streets on Friday evening to protest the framework.<\/p>\n<p>An AFP correspondent saw signs on Sunday morning that read \u2018Lebanon first\u2019 being burned along Beirut\u2019s airport road, which borders the city\u2019s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, after previous billboards saying \u2018thank you Iran\u2019 were removed.<\/p>\n<p>Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah said on Sunday that \u2018the agreement of humiliation and disgrace signed by the authorities will never see the light of day\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He added that what \u2018the authorities have done amounts to sedition aimed at pushing the country into chaos and shifting the conflict from one with the enemy to an internal conflict\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Hezbollah repeatedly asked Lebanese authorities to link themselves to Iran\u2019s negotiations to end its war with the US, while Tehran has insisted any ceasefire for the Middle East war should include Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>In a phone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri, Iranian parliament speaker and head of Tehran\u2019s negotiating delegation Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that \u2018our goal is to end the war in Lebanon, return the refugees to their homes and remove the occupation and the withdrawal of the Zionist regime from the Lebanese territory, and we are seriously pursuing this issue\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>According to the text of the deal shared by the US State Department, Lebanon and Israel expressed their intent to \u2018conclusively end the conflict, address its underlying causes and&#8230; formally conclude any state of war between them\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, Lebanon\u2019s military will \u2018restore effective sovereign authority over all Lebanese territory, pending the verified disarmament of non-state armed groups\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s defence minister Israel Katz, however, has insisted troops will stay in Lebanon so long as Hezbollah remains armed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#13;
