He previously made a throwaway remark about the island nearly 40 years ago while promoting his book The Art of the Deal in an interview with The Guardian.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThey\u2019ve been beating us psychologically, making us look a bunch of fools,\u201d he said of Iran in 1988. \u201cOne bullet shot at one of our men or ships, and I\u2019d do a number on Kharg Island. I\u2019d go in and take it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Neil Quilliam, an energy policy and foreign affairs analyst at Chatham House, told The Independent that while it is \u201cunlikely\u201d Trump would takeover the territory, any attempt would \u201clikely send the markets into a tailspin\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It could also block any future resolution between the countries, leading to an endless standoff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201dThe US would effectively control Iran\u2019s major export terminal but the Iranian leadership would remain in control of the country\u2019s production so there would be a standoff,\u201d he said.
