{"id":193583,"date":"2026-07-07T03:24:41","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T03:24:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/193583\/"},"modified":"2026-07-07T03:24:41","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T03:24:41","slug":"hamas-dissolves-gaza-governing-body-amid-israel-ceasefire-disarmament-still-a-question","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/193583\/","title":{"rendered":"Hamas dissolves Gaza governing body amid Israel ceasefire, disarmament still a question"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas announced on Monday the dissolution of the body that has governed Gaza for nearly two decades, clearing the way for a technocratic committee to implement civilian rule.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The move marks a significant political shift by Hamas, which has run Gaza since its fighters seized control from rival Palestinian movement Fatah in 2007 after winning legislative elections the previous year.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Since a ceasefire took effect in Gaza last October between Hamas and Israel, the group has repeatedly said it is prepared to step aside from day-to-day governance but the thorny issue of its disarmament remains unresolved.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThe head of the government\u2019s emergency committee Mohammed al-Farra has officially submitted his resignation,\u201d Ismail al-Thawabta, head of Hamas\u2019 government media office, said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cHe has also decided to dissolve the committee to facilitate the administrative and governmental transition to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG),\u201d Thawabta said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"US President Donald Trump signs the charter of his Board of Peace initiative at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in January.
