Rising water levels in Diyala’s Hamrin<\/a> Dam reservoir prevented the reopening of Al-Zarka Bridge
\nin Saladin on the road linking Tuz Khurmatu and Tikrit, Saladin Provincial Council
\nstated on Sunday.<\/p>\n

A technical
\ncommittee inspected the bridge to assess its condition and identify obstacles
\npreventing the restoration of traffic. The committee found that the rising
\nreservoir had submerged both the damaged bridge and the adjacent dirt road,
\nmaking it impossible to reopen the route through the temporary road or carry
\nout backfilling work in the flooded area.<\/p>\n

The committee
\nrecommended using the Al-Adhaim Dam road or the Tikrit-Kirkuk road as temporary
\nalternatives until a replacement bridge is completed and the route is
\npermanently reopened, ensuring public safety and maintaining traffic flow
\nbetween Tuz Khurmatu and Saladin’s provincial capital.<\/p>\n

In February, the collapse<\/a> of Al-Zarka Bridge, compounded by
\nheavy rainfall and flash floods, disrupted the main route linking Tuz Khurmatu
\nand Amerli with Tikrit. Authorities
\nlater opened a temporary dirt road, but rising water levels repeatedly
\nsubmerged the crossing, forcing travelers to take lengthy alternative routes.<\/p>\n
