Find out how high those feels like temperatures will climb and when showers and thunderstorms return in the updated forecast. He was in *** vehicle, pulled out in the vehicle. ICE is reportedly pulling back on traffic stops. I’m Jackie DeFusco in Washington with the policies now under scrutiny following two fatal shootings. It was the drive over here, it was hard to believe that the situation was going on and then arriving here, it definitely was like this is real. *** fire temporarily closes three businesses in Lebanon County when they can expect to open up. And Adams County Police Department is no longer operating 24 hours *** day. The 2026 Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit. 130 companies from across the defense sector to education all here for networking. The main topic bolstering US defense. WG YL News 8 at 5 starts now. *** nationwide order from the top down telling Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to stop pursuing people in vehicles. Welcome to News 8 at 5, everyone. I’m Brian Roach and I’m Laurie Burkholder. That directive comes days after two people were shot and killed by ICE agents in Texas and Maine. Agents pursuing people on the roads is something that we’ve seen right here in the Susquehanna Valley. Earlier this month in Harrisburg, an ICE agent fired *** shot when they say they were attempting to arrest an undocumented undocumented immigrant from Mexico. An ICE spokesperson tells us now there’s no new information on that incident tonight. Well, this directive has not yet been confirmed by the Department of Homeland Security. Our Washington correspondent Jackie DeFusco joins us now with what sources are revealing tonight, Jackie. Yes, Brian Laurie, I want to share with you some breaking news actually because the president’s borders are just moments ago did confirm this policy shift. He described it as *** temporary pause, *** review he called it. He said to make sure that ICE officers stay safe. Of course this comes as immigration enforcement tactics are very much under scrutiny right now after *** Colombian man was shot and killed in Maine on Monday, marking the 2nd time in roughly *** week that ICE agents used deadly force during *** vehicle stop. The Department of Homeland Security says agents were conducting targeted surveillance when *** vehicle attempted to flee the scene and fearing for public safety, an officer discharged his weapon. While an investigation continues. Maine’s Republican Senator Susan Collins is urging the agency to cease all non-urgent vehicle stops. The Associated Press is now reporting that the Trump administration is directing ICE. Officers to suspend most traffic stops with potential exceptions for criminal warrants and collaborations with partner agencies. The White House declined to comment, and DHS is not publicly confirming the change at this point. On Capitol Hill today, Democrats also raising concerns about *** lack of body cameras in both recent shootings. If Republicans had passed our bill. There would be body cameras, proper agent ID. Warrant requirements and other common sense reforms, and these killings might not have happened. Democrats’ sweeping reform package failed earlier this year, but Congress did approve $20 million to deploy body cameras across the country. Last week. DHS said that body cameras have been sent to more than half of ICE field offices so far and that the remainder would get them in the next 60 days. The agency blaming Democrats for government shutdowns that slowed down the rollout. In responding to concerns about ICE training during *** recent hearing, Secretary of Homeland Security Mark Wayne Mullen told lawmakers that the agency would be restoring what he described as regular standards at the beginning of this month following an accelerated training schedule that was put in place. Place during that wave of new hires. Now again in that new interview that Homan just did recently with reporters, he noted that in his view the officers that were involved in these recent shootings were well trained, and he said they were not part of that group of new hires. Back to you, Jackie. These policies are under the microscope as ICE seems to be ramping up arrests. What’s the latest data on the arrests? Yes, Brian, so according to the Associated Press, during *** five day period at the end of June, ICE arrested more than 10,000 people. So what that number reflects is that even though the Trump administration has shied away from those really high profile crackdowns in specific individual cities like we saw in Minneapolis earlier this year, these arrest numbers are meanwhile still surging. Back to you. All right, Jackie, thank you. And it’s just now being Reported by the Associated Press, *** man running from an encounter with immigration agents in Florida was struck and killed by *** tractor trailer. This happened today in Saint Augustine, Florida. State Highway Patrol investigators say ICE agents responded to *** wah wah store, and when they arrived, 4 people ran from the area. That’s when *** 28-year-old man crossed the highway and was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. You know what we are doing, they do not. *** protest was held today outside of an ICE facility in Scarborough, Maine, where *** 26 year old was shot and killed by ICE agents. DHS officials say he was not being sought by ICE agents, but they tried to stop him after he was seen leaving *** home that was under surveillance by ICE officials that eventually led to gunfire. *** lot of mourning, *** lot of anger, *** lot of sadness, and *** lot of kind of despair of figuring out what to do and how we can come together. But Biddeford has always been *** community that comes together, uh, so we’ll continue to do that. Well, the NBC News team is following these developments across the nation and we’ll have extensive coverage tonight on NBC Nightly News.
