We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p>Your support makes all the difference.Read more<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration\u2019s move to reward the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/uae\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">U.A.E.<\/a> for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/middle-east\/iran-us-war-live-trump-strikes-strait-hormuz-blockade-b3015048.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">support during the Iran war<\/a> by granting it better access to U.S.-made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI<\/a> chips has been attacked in Congress and likened to influence-buying.<\/p>\n<p>A rule change introduced by the administration Friday promotes the emirate to a group of privileged trading partners that includes European allies, India and South Korea and means that it can freely purchase technology with potential military applications.<\/p>\n<p>The emirate had appealed for the shift in designation since the Joe Biden era and its ultimate success principally stands to benefit its main AI company, G42, which can now buy the chips needed to run advanced AI models from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/nvidia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a> and its competitors.<\/p>\n<p>G42 is controlled by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the U.A.E.\u2019s national security adviser and the brother of the country\u2019s president, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Tahnoon reportedly intends to see G42 become a U.S. company with majority ownership by American investors.<\/p>\n<p>The development represents a potential great leap forward for the Middle Eastern state\u2019s economy as it seeks to diversify and could be worth billions of dollars, according to industry experts <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/middle-east\/uae-ai-chips-iran-war-26c10d77\">cited by The Wall Street Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2281873270...jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"President Donald Trump with the U.A.E. Sydney Kamlager-Dove expressed conflict of interest concerns at a House of Representatives committee hearing Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt smells like it could be an illegal pay-to-play scheme,\u201d she said, echoing Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/trump-uae-ai-chips-crypto-g42-b3012981.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">earlier denunciation of the deal as \u201ccorrupt.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Their criticism stems from the fact that the U.A.E. bought a 49 per cent stake in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/donald-trump\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a> family\u2019s cryptocurrency venture World Liberty Financial just four days before his second inauguration in January 2025, an investment worth $500 million.<\/p>\n<p>The country has also promised to invest $1.4 trillion in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Kamlager-Dove questioned Commerce Department official Jeffrey Kessler at the hearing, who said he had not discussed chip exports with Trump\u2019s family and called the agreement with the U.A.E. \u201cone of the most significant achievements of the administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House has also dismissed her concerns.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2264818122...jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"California Democratic Rep.
