{"id":209185,"date":"2026-07-16T09:08:06","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T09:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/209185\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T09:08:06","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T09:08:06","slug":"india-orders-shipping-firms-to-stop-deploying-seafarers-through-strait-of-hormuz-amid-iran-us-conflict-firstpost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/209185\/","title":{"rendered":"India orders shipping firms to stop deploying seafarers through Strait of Hormuz amid Iran-US conflict \u2013 Firstpost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Indian government has directed shipping companies to stop deploying Indian seafarers on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz until further notice, citing the worsening security situation in the Gulf region.<\/p>\n<p>The order was issued by the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) under Circular No. 36 of 2026 and applies to Indian and foreign ship owners, ship managers and Recruitment and Placement Service Licence (RPSL) companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn view of the heightened security situation in the Gulf region, the DGMA has directed Ship Owners, Ship Managers and RPSL Companies to avoid deploying Indian seafarers on vessels undertaking voyages through the Strait of Hormuz until further orders,\u201d the regulator said in its notification.<\/p>\n<p>STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Advisory for Indian Maritime Stakeholders<\/p>\n<p>In view of the heightened security situation in the Gulf region, the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA), through DGMA Circular No. 36 of 2026, has directed Ship Owners, Ship Managers and RPSL Companies to avoid\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/s8XgKI1ifn\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/s8XgKI1ifn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India (@dgshipping_IN) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/dgshipping_IN\/status\/2077428583220560179?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">July 15, 2026<\/a><br \/>\nDecision follows attacks on merchant vessels<\/p>\n<p>The directive comes after a series of attacks on commercial ships operating in and around the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating military tensions between the United States and Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The government said the move was aimed at protecting Indian seafarers as the security situation in one of the world\u2019s busiest shipping lanes continues to worsen.<\/p>\n<p>According to official data, India is the world\u2019s third-largest supplier of seafarers, with more than 300,000 Indians employed across the global merchant shipping industry.<\/p>\n<p>Indian seafarers among casualties<\/p>\n<p>The government\u2019s decision follows recent attacks in which Indian crew members were killed or injured.<\/p>\n<p>Among the incidents cited were<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/india\/who-was-sonu-kumar-gupta-bihar-marine-engineer-killed-in-hormuz-missile-strike-14031444.html\" id=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/india\/who-was-sonu-kumar-gupta-bihar-marine-engineer-killed-in-hormuz-missile-strike-14031444.html\" class=\"body_anchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">missile strikes on the oil tankers Mombasa B and Al Bahyah<\/a>, in which one Indian sailor was killed and several others were injured.<\/p>\n<p>STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD<\/p>\n<p>In another attack on the container vessel GFS Galaxy, an Indian crew member remains missing and is presumed dead.<\/p>\n<p>Government figures show that since the conflict intensified earlier this year, 13 to 14 Indian seafarers have been killed, while three remain missing.
