Iran\u2019s elite revolutionary guards has drawn up a plan to hit five key US military and commercial targets in the Gulf region, Fars News Agency, linked with the IRGC\u00a0reported. The plan comes in response to the Americans\u2019 attack on their southeastern port city, Chabahar.<\/p>\n

These five sites are spread across different nations of West Asia \u2013 United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Kuwait,\u00a0Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. All five nations are considered close allies of the US in the region.<\/p>\n

All these nations also happen to be petrostates, a term used for nation-states that have a semi-official arrangement with the United States through which they make all their oil trade Dollar-denominated in exchange for security guarantees from Washington D.C. Attack on their territory risks worsening the already sensitive oil-market\u00a0situation.<\/p>\n

What Sites Are Tehran\u2019s Hit List?<\/p>\n

According to the Fars News Agency report, UAE\u2019s Jebel Ali Port, Bahrain\u2019s Naval Support Activity\u00a0at Mina Salman, Kuwait\u2019s Shuaiba Port and Camp\u00a0Arifjan, Qatar\u2019s Hamad Port, and Saudi\u00a0Arabia\u2019s King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu city could be the\u00a0likely targets.<\/p>\n

Emirati Jebel Ali Port is the most\u00a0frequently\u00a0visited foreign port by the US Navy<\/a>, according to Wikipedia. It also hosts\u00a0aircraft carriers and large naval groups of the Americans.<\/p>\n

Naval Support Activity Bahrain at Mina Salman\u00a0headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet, which oversees naval operations across the Gulf, Red Sea, and Arabian Sea<\/a>.\u00a0It is a\u00a0permanent U.S. naval base with thousands of personnel.<\/p>\n

Camp\u00a0Arifjan\u00a0serves as the forward headquarters of the US Army\u2019s Central and Ali Al Salem Air Base<\/a>. It is around 40km from the Iraqi border and is unofficially\u00a0called \u201cThe Rock” due to its isolated, rugged environment. The base was\u00a0established\u00a0here during the\u00a0Second Gulf War (2003) and is staging post for army units.<\/p>\n

Hamad Port\u00a0is\u00a0one of the newest and largest ports in the Gulf, built\u00a0in the aftermath of the 2017 blockade of Qatar led by the Saudis who accused them of supporting terrorists and having close ties to Iran. Today, Qatar is one of the primary targets\u00a0for Iran, due in part because of Doha\u2019s ties with the US.<\/p>\n

The Hamad port was built to enhance Qatar\u2019s economic resilience in events such as the one it finds itself in today with the closing of the Strait of Hormuz. The port\u00a0remains\u00a0central to Doha\u2019s economic independence and supply chain resilience.<\/p>\n

Last but not the least, the\u00a0King Fahd Industrial Port\u00a0provides Saudi Arabia with an alternative export route if Gulf shipping is disrupted.\u00a0It is critical for global oil supply stability.<\/p>\n

What Iran Hope To Achieve By Targeting These Sites?<\/p>\n

Taken together, these sites illustrate a clear strategic pattern across the Gulf region. Facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait function as core nodes for U.S. military command and\u00a0logistics, while Jebel Ali in the UAE combines commercial significance with regular U.S. naval usage. In contrast, Qatar\u2019s infrastructure emphasizes resilience and continuity of trade alongside a major nearby U.S. air presence, and Saudi Arabia\u2019s Yanbu complex highlights energy export capacity that is less dependent on Gulf transit routes.<\/p>\n

Collectively, they\u00a0represent\u00a0a network of assets that underpin both regional security arrangements and the global economic system.<\/p>\n

A central geographic factor shaping their importance is the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow maritime chokepoint through which a significant share of the world\u2019s energy supplies and trade flows. Many of these locations\u2014particularly in the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait\u2014are closely tied to this corridor and therefore exposed to disruptions within it.<\/p>\n

Others, such as Yanbu and to a lesser extent Qatar\u2019s infrastructure,\u00a0provide\u00a0partial alternatives that reduce reliance on the strait. This combination of dependence and redundancy reinforces the overall strategic value of the network.<\/p>\n
