The third U.S. servicemember killed by Iran in Friday\u2019s attack at a base in Jordan has been identified as a Queens resident<\/a>, officials said Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Sgt. Angel Rampersad, 28, grew up in Ozone Park, City Council Speaker Julie Menin said on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cTonight, our city mourns the presumed loss of Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad, an Ozone Park resident who died this past weekend in Jordan serving her country,\u201d Menin said. \u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends as they grieve the loss of their beloved.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs this conflict continues in the Middle East, we pray that all our service members remain safe and return home to their families,\u201d she added in a joint statement with Councilwoman Joann Ariola (D-Queens).<\/p>\n

The U.S. military confirmed Rampersad\u2019s death on Tuesday, bringing the\u00a0death toll to 18 U.S. service members killed since the war began.<\/p>\n

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards said Sgt. Rampersad\u2019s death \u201cheartbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSgt. Rampersad should still be alive, serving her country with courage and counting down the days to her return to Ozone Park<\/a>. To know that she\u2019s coming home in a flag-draped casket \u2014 killed in a reckless war that Americans don\u2019t support \u2014 is absolutely heartbreaking,\u201d he said on X. \u201cTo the Rampersad family, know that Angel will always be remembered as a hero whose legacy of bravery will forever resonate across a grateful Queens. May her memory and the memories of the other 17 American servicemembers lost in this pointless conflict never be forgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday, the Pentagon identified 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, as the two other soldiers who were\u00a0killed in Jordan\u00a0in Friday\u2019s attacks.<\/p>\n

The soldiers were killed by\u00a0Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks\u00a0in the first troop deaths from direct Iranian fire since the opening days of the war. They were deployed to support a U.S. mission against the Islamic State group, a U.S. Central Command statement said.<\/p>\n

After the attack, U.S. Central Command announced that two servicemembers were killed and another was missing. The following day, the military command said that troops found unidentified remains and that an examination process to verify the remains was underway.<\/p>\n

Now, the Pentagon says that Rampersad is believed to be that missing soldier and her official status is now \u201cDuty Status\u2013Whereabouts Unknown\u201d and she is \u201cbelieved to be deceased.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rampersad belonged to the same unit as Gonzales \u2014 the 10th Army Air & Missile Defense Command based in Ansbach, Germany.<\/p>\n

Also, a U.S. soldier killed in Iraq during a\u00a0controlled detonation of an Iranian drone\u00a0was identified as Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, a 30-year-old father from North Carolina who had served for nearly a decade, according to a military statement Tuesday and his family.<\/p>\n

Renewed fighting between the U.S. and Iran<\/a>\u00a0is now in its 10th day, with both sides launching barrages of strikes. Iran has attacked U.S. allies in the region, and American soldiers are stationed across the Middle East.<\/p>\n

Iranian authorities say U.S. strikes in just the past three weeks have killed at least 50 people and wounded more than 500 others.<\/p>\n

Both sides have targeted civilian infrastructure relied on by millions of people. Workers on ships, as well as foreign workers and others in Gulf nations, Israel and Lebanon have also died in the conflict.<\/p>\n

The U.S. State Department said in a new warning to Americans that \u201cIran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

U.S. President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a> has said the war is necessary to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Trump, a Republican, now faces political pressure to bring the war to a close and avoid the kind of prolonged Middle East conflict he had campaigned against. The escalation has pushed oil prices higher in recent weeks.<\/p>\n
