{"id":218294,"date":"2026-07-22T14:52:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T14:52:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/218294\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T14:52:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T14:52:16","slug":"israel-ends-venezuela-quake-mission-will-continue-assisting-remotely","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/218294\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel ends Venezuela quake mission, will continue assisting remotely"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Israel\u2019s aid delegation to earthquake-stricken Venezuela has completed its mission and returned to Israel after around three weeks operating in the South American country, the Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Venezuela\u2019s acting President Delcy Rodriguez \u2014 at whose request the delegation had extended its stay and who had approved a national reconstruction plan prepared by the Israeli team \u2014 held a meeting with representatives from the IDF and Foreign Ministry ahead of their departure, expressing her appreciation for their efforts, according to a ministry statement.<\/p>\n<p>Following the delegation\u2019s return to Israel, Israeli expert teams will continue providing professional guidance and support to the Venezuelan authorities remotely, the ministry added.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, Rodriguez \u201cthanked the members of the delegation for their contribution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said members of the Israeli delegation \u201cpresented key elements of the recovery plan developed jointly with the Venezuelan authorities, which will continue to serve as the framework for the professional support provided after the completion of the field mission,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tGet The Times of Israel&#8217;s Daily Edition<br \/>\n\t\t\tby email and never miss our top stories\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/terms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terms<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The delegation \u2014 initially led by the chief of staff of the Home Front Command, Elad Edri, and Israel\u2019s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Yoed Magen, and later by commander of the IDF National Search and Rescue Unit, Yossi Pinto, and Ambassador Gil Artzyeli \u2014 operated in several earthquake-hit areas at the request of the Venezuelan government.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2026\/07\/AP26182212391972-e1782913686563.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3853382\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/AP26182212391972-e1782913686563-640x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\tVolunteers and rescue members help to find survivors in Caraballeda, La Guaira state, Venezuela, on June 30, 2026, following the June 24 twin earthquakes. (Miguel Medina\/Pool Photo via AP)<\/p>\n<p>The team was tasked with assessing and classifying damaged buildings and assisting with reconstruction efforts following the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/thousands-feared-dead-as-twin-earthquakes-devastate-venezuela\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> twin earthquakes<\/a> that have been estimated to have killed at least 5,069 people.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 17,000 people were also injured in the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes on June 24, while almost 18,000 more lost their homes.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/pm-hails-israeli-aid-team-for-rebuilding-relations-with-venezuela-after-17-years-of-severed-ties\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hailed<\/a> the Israeli delegation for not only helping the country recover but also \u201crebuilding relations\u201d with Caracas on a diplomatic level, nearly two decades after it severed ties with the Jewish state.<\/p>\n<p>Venezuela broke off diplomatic ties with Israel over the 2008-2009 war in Gaza, and under then-leader Hugo Chavez it was one of the world\u2019s most vocal critics of Israel during the war in Gaza that was sparked by Hamas\u2019s October 7, 2023, terror onslaught.<\/p>\n<p>However, Israel has expressed hope for better ties with Caracas since the US captured Venezuela\u2019s then-president Nicolas Maduro in January and supported Rodriguez taking power.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\tWe can&#8217;t do this work alone.\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Untitled-design-4-200x200.jpg\" class=\"attachment-square size-square wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel.
