{"id":219129,"date":"2026-07-23T02:15:21","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T02:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/219129\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T02:15:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T02:15:21","slug":"house-approves-gop-supported-us-israel-military-integration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/219129\/","title":{"rendered":"House approves GOP-supported US-Israel military integration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Republican-controlled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/us-house\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US House<\/a>\u00a0of Representatives voted Wednesday in favor of a record $1.15 trillion\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/military-spending\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">military spending<\/a>\u00a0authorization bill containing a highly controversial provision to increase cooperation between the US and Israeli armed forces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">House lawmakers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legis1.com\/news\/house-defense-bill-vote-republicans-push-through\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">voted 219-206<\/a>, almost entirely along party lines, to pass HR 8800, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/republicans\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Republicans<\/a>\u00a0voted 213-1 in favor\u2014with Rep. Thomas Massey of Kentucky casting the lone\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/gop\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GOP<\/a>\u00a0\u201cno\u201d\u2014while Democrats voted 205-5 against the measure. Democratic Reps. Don Davis (NC), Jared Golden (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/maine\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maine<\/a>), Adam Gray (Calif.), Vicente Gonzalez (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/texas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas<\/a>), and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.) voted \u201cyes.\u201d Independent Rep. Kevin Kiley of California also voted in favor of the bill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Massie and Rep.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/ro-khanna\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ro Khanna<\/a>\u00a0(D-Calif.) submitted an amendment to strip Section 219\u2014which would integrate American and Israeli research and development\u2014from the proposed NDAA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rep.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/alexandria-ocasio-cortez\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a>\u00a0(D-NY) on Tuesday\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/ndaa-israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">called<\/a>\u00a0the NDAA \u201can existential threat to American sovereignty and democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Massie\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepThomasMassie\/status\/2079742836707058133\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cour founders would be appalled at what Congress is doing now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Wednesday, Rep.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/ilhan-omar\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ilhan Omar<\/a>\u00a0(D-Minn.)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Ilhan\/status\/2079997433166098547\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">described<\/a>\u00a0Section 219 as \u201can outrageous threat to our country\u2019s security and autonomy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAmericans want no part in Netanyahu\u2019s genocidal regime,\u201d she added, referring to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/icc-arrest-warrant-netanyahu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">fugitive<\/a>\u00a0Israeli Prime Minister\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/benjamin-netanyahu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a>. \u201cCongress cannot continue to bankroll Israel\u2019s campaign of terror. Voting NO.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the House Rules Committee blocked debate on the proposal, which remains in the legislation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe need to now fight to strip this amendment in the conference between the House and the Senate,\u201d Khanna said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to Section 219, another provision of the proposed NDAA, Section 622, also remains in the legislation. The measure would \u201cexpand and enhance intelligence sharing\u201d with Israel, and limit restrictions on such cooperation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As controversial as 219 is, the primary driver of Democratic opposition to the NDAA was Republican leadership\u2019s use of a procedural rule to automatically\u00a0merge the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act\u00a0into the military spending package. The legislation\u2014which has been strongly pushed by President Donald Trump\u2014mandates proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. Democrats heavily opposed attaching a controversial voting measure to a must-pass national security bill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An amendment that would have made Trump\u2019s executive order banning transgender people from serving in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/us-military\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US military<\/a>\u00a0permanent was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MarioNawfal\/status\/2080007470370418973\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">narrowly defeated<\/a>\u00a0as Republican Reps.
