Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening strategic relations and expanding bilateral cooperation during talks in Tehran, emphasising the deep historical, cultural and religious ties between the two neighbouring countries. <\/p>\n
According to Iran’s Mehr News Agency, Pezeshkian met al-Zaidi, who is visiting Tehran at the head of a high-level delegation, to discuss issues of mutual interest and ways to deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, News.Az<\/a> reports, citing Mehr news agency<\/a>.<\/p>\n The two leaders underscored the importance of preserving and strengthening the “deep historical, cultural, religious and people-to-people ties” between Iran and Iraq, describing them as “a valuable asset” underpinning the further expansion of strategic cooperation.<\/p>\n Pezeshkian and al-Zaidi also reviewed existing bilateral agreements, saying that accelerating their full implementation would represent “an important step” towards enhancing relations and advancing the mutual interests of both countries.<\/p>\n The two sides stressed the need to make greater use of their shared potential in the political, economic, trade, transit, energy and regional cooperation sectors.<\/p>\n Emphasising the importance of continued coordination and convergence, the Iranian president and the Iraqi prime minister described the opening of new avenues for cooperation as “a strategic necessity” for the future of relations between Tehran and Baghdad.<\/p>\n They said expanding comprehensive bilateral ties would not only strengthen stability, security and prosperity in both countries but would also serve the interests of the “two brotherly nations” and contribute to greater regional solidarity and cohesion.<\/p>\n
