{"id":22249,"date":"2026-03-16T19:44:01","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T19:44:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/22249\/"},"modified":"2026-03-16T19:44:01","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T19:44:01","slug":"syrian-arab-republic-general-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/22249\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian Arab Republic | General Debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa used his debut at the UN General Assembly\u2019s annual debate to outline a forward-looking agenda of reform and rebuilding, promising balanced diplomacy, transitional justice, and inclusive representation as the country turns \u201cthe page of a wretched past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>Read also the UN News story in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/ur\/story\/2025\/09\/18771\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Urdu<\/a> about the declaration made by the President of the Syrian Arab Republic at the General Debate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>A year ago, Mr. Al-Sharaa was leader of a rebel group based in Syria\u2019s northwest before leading a rapid military offensive in late 2024 which toppled the Assad regime in Damascus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the very moment the former regime fell, we set out a clear strategic policy built upon three pillars \u2013 balanced diplomacy, security and stability, and economic development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He pledged that Syria was now \u201crebuilding itself through establishing a new State, building institutions and laws that guarantee the rights of all without exception.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Al-Sharaa said commissions had been created for transitional justice and to investigate the fate of missing persons, while work is underway toward electing a legislative council.<\/p>\n<p>Civil and military institutions have been restructured, previous bureaucracy dissolved, and a \u201cgovernment of competence\u201d established to strengthen participation.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed to the full restoration of international relations, new regional and global partnerships \u2013 as evidenced by the partial lifting of sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMajor regional and international companies have already begun entering the Syrian market, contributing through investment and reconstruction,\u201d he said, while calling for the lifting of all sanctions so they no longer \u201cshackle the Syrian people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From turmoil to renewal<br \/>President Al-Sharaa portrayed Syria as a nation moving from turmoil to renewal, declaring: \u201cA land of ancient civilisation and culture deserves to be a state of law. Protecting everyone, safeguarding rights, guaranteeing freedoms, and fostering life to flourish while turning the page of a wretched past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also pledged accountability, noting that Syria had formed fact-finding commissions to investigate recent sectarian violence and made itself accessible to UN investigators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guarantee to bring to justice everyone accountable and responsible for bloodshed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, he denounced continuing Israeli strikes on Syrian territory as threats to regional stability and reiterated Damascus\u2019 commitment to the 1974 disengagement of forces agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed to dialogue,\u201d he said, calling on the international community to support Syria in the face of attacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn continuation of the Syrian story, I declare before you today the triumph of truth over falsehood,\u201d he told delegates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTruth has come, and falsehood has perished.
