{"id":225861,"date":"2026-07-28T09:40:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T09:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/225861\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T09:40:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T09:40:10","slug":"bab-el-mandeb-shipping-rises-amid-hopes-of-resolution-in-us-iran-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/225861\/","title":{"rendered":"Bab el-Mandeb shipping rises amid hopes of resolution in US-Iran war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">By Mohi Narayan<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">NEW DELHI, July 28 (Reuters) &#8211; The number of vessels passing through Bab el-Mandeb rose to 28 on Monday, a four-day \u200chigh, while traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remained low, according \u200cto Kpler shipping data, amid optimism about a potential resolution to the U.S.-Iran conflict.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Traffic was still \u200bbelow the month&#8217;s peak of 46 vessels recorded on July 14, the data showed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that Washington&#8217;s negotiations with Iran were progressing and could lead to a resolution, but warned that military action could \u200crestart if the talks collapsed. \u2060Iran issued similar comments about retaliation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Out of 12 vessels that entered the Red Sea on Monday, four were oil tankers, \u2060based on the data at 0512 GMT on Tuesday. One was a very large crude carrier (VLCC), two were Suezmax tankers and the fourth was an Aframax tanker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A \u200bVLCC can \u200bcarry about 2 million barrels of \u200boil, while a Suezmax typically carries \u200chalf that volume. An Aframax tanker can transport about 700,000 barrels of oil.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The 16 vessels that exited the Red Sea on Monday included 10 oil tankers. There were four Suezmax tankers, three Aframax tankers, two medium range tankers and one VLCC, the data showed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Hong Kong-flagged VLCC New Pearl carrying 2 million \u200cbarrels of Saudi crude exited the Red \u200bSea for eastern China&#8217;s Zhoushan port, the fourth \u200bChinese supertanker to leave since \u200bthe Houthis declared a naval blockade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">STRAIT OF HORMUZ<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Traffic via the \u200cStrait of Hormuz stayed low with \u200bsix commodity-carrying vessels \u200btransiting the waterway on Monday, including one Iranian-linked Suezmax tanker and a VLCC which entered with its transponder off, the data showed.
