His arrest is the latest in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/veteran-of-secret-idf-unit-arrested-charged-upon-suspicion-of-spying-for-iran\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">string<\/a> of cases of Israelis arrested for alleged espionage on behalf of the Islamic Republic.<\/p>\n<p>Titi is accused of exploiting his access to medical centers across Israel to pass sensitive intelligence to his Iranian handler, including information about hospitals\u2019 preparedness in emergency situations.<\/p>\n<p>During a visit by Herzog and Smotrich to Nahariya\u2019s Galilee Medical Center, the accused allegedly reached out to his handler on his own initiative, notifying him of their appearance at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>He sent a photo of Herzog and his entourage to the Iranian agent, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tGet The Times of Israel&#8217;s Daily Edition<br \/>\n\t\t\tby email and never miss our top stories\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/terms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terms<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The alleged espionage went beyond Titi\u2019s work as an ambulance driver, and the defendant was also sent to protest locations, including Tel Aviv\u2019s Hostages Square and the site of a demonstration in Haifa, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2023\/06\/FotoJet-2-e1687245292502.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3036769\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/FotoJet-2-e1687245292502-640x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\t(L) Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich at the Knesset in Jerusalem, May 1, 2023. (Noam Revkin Fenton\/Flash90)<\/p>\n<p>The accused also traveled to Amikam, the moshav where former defense minister Yoav Gallant resides, and documented houses, streets and a clinic in the area, prosecutors added.<\/p>\n<p>According to the indictment, Titi received tens of thousands of shekels in exchange for his actions, transferred to him in cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past two years, dozens of Israelis, including several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/two-idf-aircraft-mechanics-to-be-charged-with-spying-on-ben-gvir-ex-idf-chief-report\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">soldiers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/iron-dome-reservist-soldier-indicted-for-spying-for-iran\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reservists<\/a>, have been charged with espionage on behalf of Iran. (Chaim Goldberg\/Flash90)<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday authorities said an Israeli who previously served in the military in a classified unit had been arrested and charged with spying on behalf of Iran. He allegedly told Iranian agents he knew \u201ca lot\u201d and was \u201chere for the big jobs\u201d in exchange for payment.<\/p>\n<p>No further details were given regarding the information the suspect sent to the Iranians, or when he was arrested.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, a soldier performing mandatory service was sentenced to five years in prison for carrying out espionage tasks on behalf of Iran, after being convicted of contact with a foreign agent and delivering information liable to benefit the enemy.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian handlers usually start their recruits with relatively mundane tasks such as vandalism or the filming of public locations, which then escalate into more severe, sometimes even violent offenses.<\/p>\n<p>The growing number of alleged Iranian agents has even prompted Israel to open up a new wing in Haifa\u2019s Damon Prison for those indicted on such spying charges.
