{"id":230062,"date":"2026-07-31T04:35:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T04:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/230062\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T04:35:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T04:35:08","slug":"oil-price-strait-of-hormuz-crude-flows-recover-trumps-iran-tariff-push","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/230062\/","title":{"rendered":"Oil price: Strait of Hormuz crude flows recover, Trump&#8217;s Iran tariff push"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oil tankers and cargo vessels remain anchored off Port Sultan Qaboos on June 21, 2026 in Muscat, Oman. <\/p>\n<p>Elke Scholiers | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices extended declines Friday as signs of a recovery in crude flows through the Strait of Hormuz eased supply concerns, after a resumption of hostilities between U.S. and Iran had sent them higher.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Texas Intermediate<\/a> futures for September delivery dropped 1.62% to $82.24. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@LCO.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brent crude<\/a>\u00a0futures, the international benchmark, fell by 0.98%% to $88.16 a barrel. <\/p>\n<p>Commonwealth Bank of Australia said in a note on Friday that stronger oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz had eased market concerns after U.S.-Iran strikes earlier this week briefly pushed Brent above $93 a barrel. <\/p>\n<p>The bank estimates traffic through the vital waterway has recovered to roughly 30%-35% of pre-war levels, adding that a rebound to around 50%-60% of normal flows could be enough to reassert oversupply conditions in the global oil market.<\/p>\n<p>Investors also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/07\/30\/trump-iran-tariffs-sanctions-bill.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">weighed President Donald Trump&#8217;s call<\/a> to add tariffs on Iran to a bipartisan sanctions bill targeting Tehran and Russia. <\/p>\n<p>While sanctions against the two countries have widespread support in the Congress, Trump&#8217;s well-established belief in tariffs as a one-size-fits-all tool for economic coercion is polarizing.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. imported just\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ustr.gov\/countries-regions\/south-central-asia\/iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$1.4 million in goods from Iran in 2025<\/a>, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. Works of art, collectors pieces and antiques were the largest category of those imports, making up 55% of the value, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tradingeconomics.com\/united-states\/imports\/iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Trading Economics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d like to see tariffs on Iran.
