T\u00fcrkiye<\/a> wants to take part in future international efforts to support security in southern Lebanon<\/a> after the current U.N. peacekeeping force withdraws, President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan said on July 30.<\/p>\n

Speaking alongside Lebanese President Joseph Aoun after talks at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, Erdo\u011fan reaffirmed T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s support for Lebanon\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity.<\/p>\n

Erdo\u011fan said Ankara wanted to participate in \u201call initiatives\u201d launched after the withdrawal of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL<\/a>) to support regional security and safeguard Lebanese sovereignty.<\/p>\n

The U.N. Security Council has extended UNIFIL\u2019s mandate for a final time through Dec. 31, 2026, after which the mission is due to begin an orderly withdrawal.<\/p>\n

Erdo\u011fan said T\u00fcrkiye would continue supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces, providing humanitarian and technical assistance and helping strengthen the country\u2019s institutions.<\/p>\n

Ankara was also ready to contribute to the reconstruction of southern Lebanon, he added.<\/p>\n

The two presidents discussed Israel\u2019s continued military presence in southern Lebanon, regional developments and bilateral ties.<\/p>\n

Erdo\u011fan also said stronger dialogue between Lebanon and Syria would benefit both countries and offered T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s assistance in developing relations.<\/p>\n

Erdo\u011fan put the toll from Israeli attacks since March 2 at more than 4,300 people killed, over 2,000 injured and around 1 million displaced.<\/p>\n

He accused Israel of committing \u201ccrimes against humanity\u201d and said T\u00fcrkiye was closely following diplomatic efforts to end the attacks and occupation.<\/p>\n

Aoun said Lebanon was working to secure Israel\u2019s full withdrawal, the return of displaced residents, reconstruction and an economic recovery.<\/p>\n

He said state authority should be restored throughout the country under \u201cone state, one army and one authority,\u201d adding that Beirut would not permit interference in Lebanon\u2019s sovereignty.<\/p>\n

Aoun thanked T\u00fcrkiye for its support, including the role<\/a> of Turkish personnel in UNIFIL, and described his visit as the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations.
