Iran has cast doubt on Donald Trump\u2019s claim that direct talks will start imminently between Tehran and Washington DC.<\/p>\n

The US President said he had suspended planned strikes due to talks between the two nations, including about access to the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

But on Monday, Iran said it was only talking to Oman and that was about shipping lanes through the strait \u2013 and even that seemed tenuous.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo long as all the matters that the United States has violated during this period remain unresolved, naturally no significant change will occur in the situation of the Strait of Hormuz,\u201d Iran\u2019s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said. <\/p>\n

President Trump later announced he was prepared to \u201cdecapitate\u201d the nation, warning Iran had one \u201clast chance\u201d to meet US demands.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, FIFA has denied that embattled world soccer chief Gianni Infantino had been trying to contact the Trump White House to \u201cbeg\u201d the administration to intervene and help him keep his job. <\/p>\n

The New York Post reported that after failing to rouse Mr Trump himself, Mr Infantino then had a call scheduled with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.<\/p>\n

But Mr Rubio\u2019s office has denied a call was put in the diary or the two would chat. <\/p>\n

Mr Infantino\u2019s job is looking increasingly shaky after FIFA announced a deal to sell off some of the rights to its tournaments to private investors, including the World Cup. That deal was scrapped after national teams threatened to boycott all FIFA events. <\/p>\n
