A new agreement under discussion between Iran and Oman could give Tehran partial control over ships entering the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n
According to the agency, this is considered one of the most significant concessions made to Iran.<\/p>\n
However, sources did not confirm U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that an agreement on restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is imminent. They said a number of key details of the deal have yet to be agreed upon.<\/p>\n
One regional source told Reuters that a concession has already been made regarding granting Iran a certain form of control over the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
According to a senior Iranian official, Tehran has proposed imposing a fee equal to 5\u20137% of the value of cargo carried by ships entering the Persian Gulf through the strait.
