London, 5th\u00a0August 2026 \u202f\u2013 Following Israeli attacks\u00a0in\u00a0Gaza that killed at least 19 Palestinians\u00a0on Sunday,\u00a0the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) is calling on the\u00a0UK Government to take immediate action to comply with its obligations under international law\u00a0and\u00a0urges the\u00a0Foreign Secretary\u00a0to introduce a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel,\u00a0as well as impose targeted sanctions on Benjamin Netanyahu and members of the Israeli government responsible for serious violations of international law.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Israel\u2019s\u00a0latest attacks come just one day after Israeli air strikes killed at least eight Palestinians across multiple locations in Gaza,\u00a0highlighting\u00a0the continued bombardment of the besieged enclave despite\u00a0the\u00a0so-called \u2018ceasefire\u2019.\u00a0Israel has killed\u00a0at\u00a0least 1,222 Palestinians\u00a0and\u00a0injured\u00a0more than 4,000 since the\u00a0October\u00a0\u2018ceasefire\u2019\u00a0agreement\u00a0last year.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The scale of human suffering caused by Israel\u2019s genocide in Gaza demands urgent and immediate action by the UK and international partners. Extremely conservative estimates\u00a0indicate\u00a0that more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023, while humanitarian organisations estimate that tens of thousands more\u00a0remain\u00a0missing or buried beneath the rubble.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite Trump\u2019s \u2018board of peace\u2019 advancing\u00a0negotiations,\u00a0Palestinians\u00a0remain\u00a0subject to daily military attacks\u00a0in Gaza,\u00a0the blocking of\u00a0aid by Israel, and\u00a0worsening humanitarian conditions.\u00a0Israel\u00a0continues to\u00a0persistently and unlawfully violate\u00a0the\u00a0ceasefire\u00a0agreement\u00a0in a deliberate attempt to disrupt an already fragile\u00a0and\u00a0lukewarm\u00a0attempt at peace in Gaza, displaying its total lack of regard for Palestinian life or for a peace process.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The persistence of Israeli\u00a0attacks\u00a0\u00a0demonstrates\u00a0that political\u00a0statements\u00a0alone are insufficient to protect Palestinian civilians or ensure\u00a0compliance with international law. The\u00a0UK Government must\u00a0now\u00a0move beyond statements of concern and take concrete action to prevent further violations and ensure accountability for\u00a0perpetrators\u00a0of war crimes in Gaza.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Israel\u2019s unwavering commitment to derailing peace by all necessary means has been emboldened by the silence and complicity of the UK and other Western states who have refused to challenge Israel\u2019s astounding impunity.\u00a0If\u00a0Foreign Secretary Miliband, newly appointed to the role in Prime Minister Burnham\u2019s cabinet,\u00a0maintains\u00a0any\u00a0willingness\u00a0for the UK to\u00a0comply withinternational humanitarian law and end its\u00a0complicity in the Gaza genocide, he will implement a full arms\u00a0embargo on Israel, including the F-35 carve out, and\u00a0impose targeted UK sanctions on Israeli government members responsible for such violations, including Prime Minister\u00a0Netanyahu.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
