SWATARA TOWNSHIP, Pa. \u2014<\/p>\nA tractor-trailer plowed into two garages in Lebanon County after an SUV ran a stop sign on Wednesday, according to Pennsylvania State Police. <\/p>\n
The crash happened at the intersection of Route 72 and Thompson Avenue in Swatara Township at 9:09 a.m. <\/p>\n
Car runs stop sign, police say<\/p>\n
According to state police, a 76-year-old woman driving a red Ford Escape failed to stop at a stop sign, continued into the intersection and struck the side of a tractor-trailer. <\/p>\n
The impact caused the tractor-trailer to crash into two garages along Route 72, trapping its 56-year-old truck driver, according to investigators. Troopers said the driver had to be extricated by fire crews. <\/p>\n
Both drivers were transported to Hershey Medical Center with what troopers said are minor injuries. <\/p>\n

Collapse teams assess damage <\/p>\n
The crash caused extensive damage to the two garages. <\/p>\n
Structural collapse teams, including a crew from Lancaster County, were called to the scene to assess the damage. <\/p>\n
Police said several other parked vehicles were struck and damaged. Diesel and paint that the truck was carrying also spilled. <\/p>\n
‘My husband could have been in there,’ homeowner says <\/p>\n
The homeowners said the crash caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to their property, including three motorcycles and valuable memorabilia. <\/p>\n
Homeowner Brianna Taylor said she was grateful no one was killed, stating that her husband frequently spends time working in the garage. <\/p>\n
“My husband could have been in that garage. He frequently is in that garage,” said homeowner Brianna Taylor. “He just happened this morning to be a little slower getting around and was relaxing because he’s off work today. He could have been in there, and he probably would have been dead because right where that truck is sitting is right where his workbench is.” <\/p>\n

Extended closure <\/p>\n
According to PennDOT, Route 72 is closed in both directions between Mountville and Jonestown roads. The estimated time of reopening is 12:30 p.m. <\/p>\n
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes until further notice. <\/p>\n
State police said the Ford driver is expected to be cited. <\/p>\n
